I chose pink drapes for a guest bedroom, grr!! - Need color advic
Comments (66)I erroneously selected a outwardly pink color for my attic office and when I returned home that night I hated it. My painter suggested one of BMs whites with pink undertone - Atrium white - and it was perfect. Should have checked with him BEFORE he painted as he was back changing it the next day. The point I am trying to make is that if you go for a pink, the most subtle color on a strip may end up being too much. Such was the case with my first choice which ended up looking like Pepto Bismol. Sue...See MoreWhat blinds/drapes/window treatments would you put here?
Comments (5)The dining room: Love the wall color, and I know you donâÂÂt want to hear this, but I love the color of the furniture. I think you could have an elegant, almost Gustavian look going on in there. I would change out the hardware to something in a brushed nickel finish. Love the chandy. I would want drapery panels in here, and would treat each window separately. Something like this might work, and would pair the rich wall color with the lighter finished furniture: audrey drape Then something simple for the chair seats: grace teal Try the trio of vases you have on the window seat in the FR as a centerpiece grouping on the DR table if you go with these fabrics. If you donâÂÂt want to use the cabinets for showing dishes, you could get some of the window wallpaper in a simple frost and cover the glass. etched glass wallpaper for windows Gathered sheer fabric is an alternative, but I am not sure that works with the style of the furniture. Or, take the cabinet out completely and use it in the sitting room as a bookcase. Replace it in the DR with another side piece, perhaps a solid wood piece in the finish color of the tabletop. I will say, tho, that I like the cabinet in the DR in part because it balances the height of the windows. For the sitting room, it is hard to say because we donâÂÂt know what the furniture or flooring will be like. But I would again think about panels, perhaps something in a textured linen or chenille, for a more casual and cozy feel. For the FR, I would like to see woven wood blinds or regular wood blinds to bring the floor color up to the window level. You could add fabric valances above the windows for some softness and color, and do matching or coordinating cushions on the window seats, and pillows for the sectional. You have a lovely home - how fun to have lots of great spaces to decorate....See MoreWhat Makes a Good Guest? A Good Host? Guest Room?
Comments (71)Well, that's not our problem, for sure. Our Florida vacation guest room has an unfortunate limitation that prevents virtually all abuse -- it's just over 7' deep by 7' wide, with a pocket door, 2 small closets separated by built-in drawers to the right of the door and a single bed to the left, window straight ahead with a little side table below it. For obvious reasons it's used by easy-going singles who aren't claustrophobic, but it's nice and comfy and works very well. Notably (aside from a second single bed, writing table, and reading chair of course), it holds almost everything that article recommends. Extra pillows and blankets of varying softnesses and thicknesses, bath linens, small space heater, fan, are all ready in closets that are otherwise empty for guest use. An adjustable reading light is mounted on a wall so the little side table remains clear, and decor is simple and serene. The drawers are topped by a mirror, and their top holds a couple of welcoming things, including chargers plugged in and ready in a basket. Most of the other useful items mentioned in the article, including toiletries and meds, are waiting in the drawer(s). No TV so far, though I would like to add one, and flowers stay outside, but otherwise... Once the business of switching out the weird jello-wobbly bed that came with the place for a good one with soft, smooth linens was attended to, the rest of the comfort was/is easy and inexpensive....See MoreWhat kind of curtains/blinds for large windows?
Comments (7)Thanks for the Ikea reminder. I forget how much cheaper their rods are. Since I'd have sheers on the rod, would I stick with the same height of curtains that I have on there now? I've seen lot of examples with drapes hung near the ceiling, but I don't know if that's appropriate with sheers, too....See MoreLidia
