Toll Brothers
Comments (81)BUYER BEWARE****** Run the other way! We closed on a Toll Brothers home in NJ after (2) delays in closing, being forced to have our furniture put into storage which necessited (2) costly moves, and thereby being homeless for (6) weeks. Well, that was the good part of the experience thus far!,, The house that was finally delivered was an utter dissapointment. There was dead sod, dead plantings, crooked and bowed walls, non non-functioning A/C on the second story, a premium paint job that was anything but, and oh, by the way, the wrong color. There are cracked floorboards, the wrong fireplace mantle, wrong light fixtures, failed swales in the yard that have now become mosquito birthing grounds! The list goes on. Toll sells and promises premium product at a premium price, yet delivered an unfinished piece of trash. 35 days here and not one thing has been repaired. The Company has become too big too fast to be effecient and are trading off of the reputation earned years ago. Right now the only thing that matters to Toll is driving up shareholder value at the expense of their customers. Check out the annual compensation for their Corporate Officers, then you will understand where the money is going. Save yourself Buyers remorse and run the other way when you are tempted to by from Toll. I wish we did!',...See MoreNew Home Inspiration
Comments (10)Mike Amazing dedication. Europe is full of ruined castles looking for lovers. kelchuk Maybe connected with a breezeway for protection from the Canadian winter? The ideal look. But the property is not deep enough. OntarioMom No, no the York Mills home isn't mine. It's one of two existing homes I plan to use as an inspiration. I couldn't afford lots there! Tie Domi lived a block away on Oxbow--until his amour deStronach led to his divorce and his ex got the mansion. When I say "footprint", that means the area the home itself takes up. The current zoning would only allow me a house about 22 feet deep, even though the lot is 119 feet deep, 250 feet wide and just short of 2/3 of an acre. Till the link goes dead, here's a gallery of the Lorne Rose home interior. (Sadly in need of an interior decorator.) , but do houses ever have two single garages one on each side of the house, with of course two different side entrances and driveway access to both garages? Yes. For instance, here in my old neighbourhood: Persia Meets Toronto robin0919 Till I can sell it. It will be the fifth custom home I've built and lived in since '90. But if I'm lucky I can sell it before it's built. Did that a couple of times too....See MoreStarter Homes vs. Forever Homes
Comments (27)Well, I am 26 and my partner is 30. We just purchased a house in the city here in Cleveland. We lived at a house in the exurbs that is probably 160 years old...it was my partner's Grandma's so we lived for "free"...he had been living there a while alone before I moved in. We bought the house here in the city because of the tax credit, I wanted a house, it was a great house in great condition, old with lots of character, in an interesting and up and coming neighborhood. It will not be our forever home and we didn't plan on it being our forever home, either. It's a great place for where we are now in life, but not for longer than maybe 5 or , at the longest, 10 years. The "old" house is a candidate for our "forever" house when my Partner inherits it, but it requires renovation...of course it's free, so, whatevs. lol. Or if we want to stay in the city, we could live in a nice old house with a bigger yard. Or we could build a house on some land we have. Dunno. But we are happy here for now at this stage in our lives. Concerning moving for career, it isn't an option for my partner or I. Too much of our family lives here, and even when they are gone, we will have too many roots here, and we love Cleveland. So, moving for career is not an option. Short answer, no, our first home is not a forever home, but we were very careful to purchase a home that we loved for now and that we will be able to sell, if we need to, for at least what we paid. Life is tough!...See MoreJust bought a house.... now what???
Comments (56)Good God, you guys!! Wait until you see the rest of the house!! HA HA! Thought about answering you all one by one, but going to cherry pick before ending my lunch break! I'm 40. I owned a house before with my now ex-wife, moved into an apartment and now moving into a house. So, I've got all the control of what color to make things, how to set it up, etc. without really knowing how to do that. I can hold my own with repairs and my dad is a contractor who translates my "You know, we could..." to "This is how you do it," which ultimately turns into "Hold this light while I do it." I'd like something better than not, but, it seems a lot of you are saying that I should get used to the space first and then tackle it. With an entire house to do this to, this makes a lot of sense. I've picked out appliances that'll run about $1400 for a fridge (skinny enough to fit), a stove (gas) and a dishwasher (my first!!). I did think about used to just tide me over in the short term and still might. I've got 2 weeks to decide. Didn't think about the fire hazard thing and moving things over. A pair of 9's for an 18 makes sense and just slide things over. Not sure how the gas line would effect that, but, that's easy enough to fix. A lot of you said things about budget. I'd like to keep it low, only because I've got the whole house to think about and paint was the cheapest option to give it a different look because the cabinets do like jainky. But, they hold dishes and pots and pans, soo.... could be future Paul's problem! @P M That looks really cool! That's a good luck for the pantry! Also, I work in IT for a university, so the school provides the grant. I have to stay five years and that's it. After that, I can do with what I want. It's not that they approve the changes. They had an inspector come thru and he comes up with a to do list of things that have to get done in a year. My list is 23 things long, but, some of those are super easy (reseat the toilet) and others are more complicated (rewire the garage). They don't have a say in what I do day-to-day, but I have to fix what they want fixed before next September. Again, thanks everyone! Sorry i can't respond to you all one by one, but I've read everything you wrote and provide updates! :)...See MoreAlicia Freeman
