How loud is the Speed Queen washer/dryer
Comments (13)One caveat...which is really a non-issue because EVERYONE who buys a Speed Queen does it. Government regs require that Speed Queen deliver their conventionally-designed machines with a fill-limiter that only "fills" the tub about 70% of actual full. Problem solved in about five minutes by removing three screws on the panel, tilting it forward, and adjusting a 1/4" limiter screw so that it fills all the way. Several youtube videos show how it's done. With zero previous experience, I accomplished this in minutes. Small deal, IMHO. After you do this, the tub will fill ALL the way when set to "full" but still allow smaller-fills by adjusting the panel-dial normally. I regard this gov't limit as quite ridiculous but that's what the manufacturer is saddled with. EVERYBODY who buys one of these machines does it. Otherwise, I would say the machine operates pretty much exactly like those Maytags of old except that 1) the tub is bigger 2) the agitation is better 3) the thing digests unbalanced spin-loads much better and 4) all rinses are tap-cold....no option for "warm" rinses....See MoreSpeed Queen washer question for owners
Comments (9)Have you ever had a ceiling fan with a dimmer switch? When the fan is slowed by current drop from dimming the lighting it will hum like that or when running very low speed. Likely a similar result of the load of the wash and current drop to make the motor run slower for gentle wash action....See MoreBrand New Speed Queen washer + dryer

If you are dissatisfied with the dealer or service where you purchased your machines, you may have some leeway in getting service from another dealer if you have several in your area. If you have problems with the dealer, you may have some other recourse through your state's consumer protection laws. Those laws vary quite a bit . Since your dealer sent a technician so quickly, you may have no problems at all and they will just swap out the defective machine. From what you said, yours is not repairable. Dryers are pretty simple, if the drum is bad at the outset, get a new machine. My local dealer is very responsive. I've bought other appliances from them in addition to the SQ rather than a Big Box store. With the upcoming holiday, you might have to wait a bit, but it should work out. Good Luck....See MoreTop loader with larger capacity than speed queen?
Comments (8)Back in 1987 I had my first SFH and my washer was a Kenmore 70 Series. I was able to wash a queen size bedspread by using the reset on the water level control and filling it with enough water to saturate it and the results were satisfactory. I had to be involved-making certain it was well washed and well rinsed, but I only washed the spread occasionally, so it was not a chore. Having had two FLs machines I am tired of the balancing issues and 70 minutes plus to do a big load because it takes it 10 minutes or more to finally spin (on medium). I read some articles recently about how to handle washing a king size comforter when the owner's washer won't accommodate it-and the recommendation was to wash it in the bathtub. I think that may be a good solution for me. I will be happy with the SQ capacity for my normal laundry. One of the reasons I am buying the analog is just for the reason of being able to use reset on the water level control and add as much water as I want for a specific load. I will try to do a big comforter-and if it does not work out I will come up with an alternative. I guess I should feel ashamed for saying I don't wash the comforter very often-but we use it for decor and not as actual bedding....See Morelittlegreeny
