Is it worth insulating the garage? Master is above the garage.
Comments (14)"We have a brand new build with a HERS rating of 53................ The issue is the master is subjected to the added temp stress of both the hot summer and cold winters in Ohio." How new? I take you've had at least 1 winter and 1 summer there already? If the garage ceiling is insulated to its full depth then you'd have to add a false ceiling to increase it. Alternatively, you could remove the fiberglass insulation (I'm assuming its fiberglass) and use spray foam for added R value. Both of these involve a lot of construction, though, and would cost quite a bit more than your initial $300 budget. If the house is new and HERS 53, isn't your builder responsible for this issue? (A HERS 53 score is significant because it's a Presidential Award threshhold that builders tout when trying to earn your business!)...See MoreHELP.... Front door light and garage light
Comments (4)Yes DM it is an awkward spot. I appreciate your input and wish I would have thought about electrical prior to this point. We were doing a front room/kitchen/bathroom remodel, I never considered having the electrical moved for the front porch light and now it is too late. We are hoping to update the exterior in the spring so I am keeping in the back of my head the hope of moving the light....See MoreLooking for advice to fill area above the garage doors??
Comments (22):) I’m glad it was helpful. I was thinking the tree could also be in a planter, but maybe just a rectangle one would be good. THe tree might help screen some of the empty wall space though. The gate with vines would look nice too, just dont block that beautiful view. I used the sketches ap on my ipad...I screen shot your pic, uploaded it to the ap, and then drew everything in. It’s very easy....See MoreNeed light suggestion for above garage door
Comments (1)Boy that is the wrong place for a garage light. Right location for a security light, but you have to decide what you need. The higher up the wall, the wider the spread on the light needs to be. I would call out an electrician and have electrical boxes placed either over the garage door or on either side of the door. Cap the box you currently have. You can replace the electrical supply box with a window so the gable wall doesn't appear to be so very large in size....See MoreDavidR
