WANTED: Sigh packs a great swap box!!
Comments (33)You know, it just dawned on me yesterday that Pat's popovers look far and away nicer than the ones pictured on the popover pan box. And I never thought to check Joy for a popover recipe...guess what I'll be making this weekend? I agree about the clean oven too, btw. If you've been bitten by the Fiesta bug (I feel like a drug pusher!) many stores like Macy's, Kohls, Boscovs & Dillards carry it so that you can see the colors in real life. I'm thinking that Peacock might be perfect with your dishes. Granjan- my husband did about three books and then the firm stopped calling him. I know that the freelance work was slowing down but it's been a few years. I know that he enjoyed it and would do it again in a heartbeat. Personally I thought that his indexes were great and I always half jokingly compliment him on Raising the Bar because I, too, would always complain about the indexes in cookbooks and how bad they were. The one in RtB is ideal! It's like he took all of my complaints to heart. So of course every time I have to look something up in the index I go "wow, this index is fantastic" but I really do mean it. Diana- the only thing that would make me happier than sending you the recipe would be sending you the popovers themselves but I'm afraid they'd be pretty stale by the time they got to you so the recipe it shall be. I'm so happy that my partner likes her stuff! And Pat kindly posted the recipe for the Maraschino cherries over in discussions. It's time for a new batch in our house as well. Comments (21)AUGH! I knew that I was forgetting something. I took the recipe out last night but neglected to put it in my bag. It's sitting right on top of the table. Cloud_swift, if you want to end the suspense & post it today please go ahead, otherwise I'll post it bright & early tomorrow morning, I promise! I even tried to see if I could read the recipe off off the photo from the swap but my handwriting is terrible. My recipe came off of the wrapping from my Chicago Metallic mini popover pans (yes, I checked the chicago metallic website, too). I'm sorry I'm such a scatterbrain! The Joy recipe is very good as well. Maryanne- yorkshire pudding & popovers are one of those things. They're different, but if you make yorkshire pudding in popover pans they look the same. Traditionally you make the Yorkshire pud in the pan that the meat was cooked in as Linda says but in my Harrods Book of Traditional English Cookery they suggest making them individually in popover pans and just using some meat drippings in each pan. I prefer to make them as individuals rather than in the pan that the meat was cooked in. The individuals rise higher and make a nicer presentation IMO even though they may not be as traditional. They also stay warm for a bit longer which is a crucial thing. When I make yorkshire pudding in the pan it deflates once it's cut & just looks sad. The individuals will still have that "puff" of steam when you open them. But once you start spooning the drippings into the cold popover pan they congeal, so the pan goes into the oven until it's hot & the drippings melt. The yorkshire puddings came out so well that I started doing the same thing with the popovers. Maybe it's an unnecessary step but it's what I do. Probably why I can't remember simple things like "bring in the popover recipe so that you can post it". My brain is too full of other things! Nina...See MoreWhat's for dinner Thursday?
Comments (14)Sue, as much as I hate decorating, it does sound like fun. I haven't had old fashioned loaf in such a long time. Can't eat much lunch meat stuff these days with Harry's problems. Sounds great, though! OK, Glenda--I give up! What's a camel rider's sandwich??? Here's the recipe for the popover pizza I made: Popover Pizza (Becky@MiMi's) 1 lb. ground beef (I used about 1-1/2 lbs.) 1 large onion, chopped 1 can tomato sauce (15 oz.) 1-1/2 Tbsp. Italian seasoning Sliced mushrooms (I omitted) 1/2 c. water 8 oz. Mozzarella cheese, sliced (I used shredded) 2 eggs 1 c. milk 1 c. flour, sifted 1 Tbsp. oil 1 tsp. salt 1/2 c. grated Parmesan cheese Preheat oven to 400. Grease a 13x9" pan. Brown meat and onion in a large skillet. Drain fat. Stir in tomato sauce, Italian seasoning and water. Add mushrooms and simmer 10 minutes. Combine eggs, milk, oil, flour and salt. Pour meat mixture into prepared baking pan. Top with mozzarella. Pour egg mixture over all. Sprinkle Parmesan cheese over egg mixture. Bake for 30 minutes or until puffed and golden brown. Let me know if yours is different, okay? Georgysmom, did you mean pretzel rolls, or is bretzel something different? Are they hard to make. Wine and dine sounds so fun--and I'm glad you had some leftover! Jasdip, girl, you are going to be aching tomorrow! That was a ton of work. I imagine it looks really pretty in your yard now. Get some rest now. Pam, I know what you mean--I'd just love to have half the great restaurants Glenda has around her place. You got a lot accomplished today--and put me to shame. Schoolhouse, enjoy your Daughter's Dinner. Sounds like great fun!...See MoreWhat's for dinner Monday?
Comments (13)Shirley, I have to do our shopping tomorrow afternoon and VA for Harry's INR test in the morning. May pick something up on the way home. Thanks for the idea (not that I'd need a lot of urging or anything)! Mary, you might know it'd stop raining after your days off were over! Hmmph!! I'd love a big juicy hamburger--and the bacon just puts it over the top! Pam, that sounds delicious. Lucky sister!! Yeah, the milk was kind of a bummer! You sure got a lot done today. Carol, I bet your house smelled wonderful. I'm with you--I love kale....See More- 6 years ago
