Wait until the tree and all the clutter is cleaned up: ) Hard to tell what's happening in there. Window treatments are one element in a total room scheme, ideally part of a feeling that is consistent through a living floor of that home. You may have your buggy ahead of the horse, but who knows?

Here is a better picture- after measuring, the picture window is in fact at the same height as the windows in my Eat-in kitchen. I think it just looks shorter because of how the ceiling slants downward.

I really like panels in living rooms but unless the bookcase is being moved the panel would be behind it. Post a picture of the entire room and one of the kitchen window straight on

The height of that window is fine. The curtains, simply part and parcel of an entire PLAN for the room. They aren't the first consideration, ever, Maybe a good laptop in your future? Along with fewer wall doo dads? : )

The biggest factor squashing the window is the signage above. Remove it. Treat the window exactly the same as the others in drapery (or shades or whatever) and rod height. Then it will look like the others.

I agree that the horizontal line of the sign doesn't help. Nor does the strong horizontal line of the crown molding. But the biggest factor, IMO, is the slopping ceiling above the window. Not much you can do about that. Unless you want to remove the crown molding in that room and paint the ceiling & walls all the same color. (Which I would not do.)

I would remove the sign & the sconce leaving nothing on the end window wall so the focus is on the window & what is outside. Vs having stuff there that serves the eye to wander around and fix the end wall in a frame, IYKWIM.

Most of my windows are on walls that slope down -- 8' perimeter ceiling height sloping to 10' interiors -- and with the exception of the kitchen window, I have empty space between the tops of the windows and the ceiling. I love curtains, and when mounted close to the ceiling, with a little puddling (I know, I know, a lot of folks hate puddling, lol), my walls look taller. They might still look taller without the puddling, so if you prefer curtains that kiss the floor, I'm pretty sure that would also help visually heighten the space.

I don't know what kind of drapery you're considering, but I'm partial to sheers, and would like to mention that it doesn't look like you have much wall space on either side of the window to support heavier fabrics. Just something to be aware of. :-)

These are GREAT suggestions!! Yes- imagine that space totally empty. All of it is going away. I hate that monitor. We are turning our dining room into a home study/office, so I will have a blank slate to work with. I like the idea of sheers. Window treatments and wall decor are admittedly, the hardest to envision for me. We had a ton of furniture and doo dads when moving from a bigger house to this smaller house and are just now getting to rearrange and make adjustments. Glad to know everyone like the idea of panels still on the picture window! Thanks for the input!
