Fireplace redo advice - floating mantle and stacked stone

We are looking to update our 1998 fireplace as part of a 1st floor facelift. Wall cabinet to left will be painted white with new doors to match bright white shaker cabinets in the kitchen (black matte hardware). Floors will be LVP - sample in pic below. One color of stone I’m looking at is Royal White by MCI. Not 100% on that yet. Wall color SW Repose Grey. Thinking of floating Mantle matched to darker tone of floors. We are getting rid of the hearth. Ceilings are 8 foot and room is not huge.

Couple of questions:

  • take stone across entire wall, or width of surround up to ceiling?
  • mount TV above or no? Thinking we’d wire for it regardless and just cover with a mirror or pic - is this a good idea for resale?
  • gas fireplace is 22 years old (builder grade Heatilator). Currently in need of new Thermal Pyle. $400 repair. Replace fireplace altogether? Concerned we may not be able to pull out at a later date after updating stone without breaking it.
  • colors look ok? Due to low ceilings, want to keep things pretty open.

Any other suggestions greatly appreciated.
