Need help with master bath tile?!
Comments (9)This is cool! I went to the great idea photo website houzz dot com. In the search box at the top I typed the words white subway tile bathroom. The photos that resulted are great and you can see the floor in a lot of them. So many approaches but I suggest you spend time with them and do 'save as' to your PC to keep as inspiration photos. I did that with kitchens and printed the photos taking my favorites with me when I went tile shopping to show the salespersons. Shopping in person for tile really helps since people who work there know more than I did about tile and design. Here our tile stores were so busy back then (pre recession) that it was best to make an appointment to get full attention at the store. Good luck! Comments (17)I think you could paint SOME of the cherry, using creamy white. I like to mix different cabinet finishes in a kitchen. Perhaps the drawer cabinet under the peninsula could be painted, with some bun feet or legs added to make it seem like a period piece that was integrated into the kitchen. That way, you could fix the drawers, get rid of the faux brick end, and then cover the whole thing with nice fresh paint. And the cabinet to the left of the fridge could also be painted cream, both the top and the bottom as if it were a small vintage hutch. I agree that the cherry is beautiful (especially that side piece by the fridge) but it is rather monolithic and brown....See MoreUpdating Master Bath - Need help and suggestions
Comments (7)Thanks to all who have responded. starben62 - No update since I just started on it. springroz - The phone is gone now. Thought it was a good idea when I did it years ago. I actually put a phone outlet in every room. may_flowers - Sorry I didn't respond to your posting in bathrooms forum. I usually try to respond to everyone. linelle - If I do away with the mirrored medicine cabinet, I won't have storage for those items which are currently in there. I also thought that I could put a cabinet over the toilet if I didn't do the counter cabinet. xc60 - Not 100% sure about going to the ceiling with the counter cabinet. In your layout, I think it will look good since your have a wider layout. I agree with your cabinet designer regarding the conflict visually with the eye. The one problem that i can see with not going to the ceiling is that the top will collect dust. Thanks again for the responses....See MoreHow long do you live with existing master bath when it needs updating
Comments (13)I understand why some folks say wait a year for a major remodel. I moved into my house in May. There were some things about the house I really thought I couldn't live with but after some time they don't bother me. However, I only have one full bath and I knew from the start I wanted to install a master bathroom. But the process of designing, getting bids, getting permits, ordering materials, and then scheduling the work doesn't happen overnight. I have a contractor and he had the designer he works with come over to discuss the bath back in June. She came up with some options and that took a few weeks to decide on the plan. Then my contractor was on vacation so took a couple of weeks to come up with the bid. I said was ready to begin. The contractor and designer just came back last week to finalize the plans. The building permit takes 6-8 weeks in my city and we have to decide on and order materials so the work probably won't start until January so that they won't be destroying my house over the holidays. So if I would you I would go ahead and have a designer give you some options. You and your husband will figure out pretty quickly whether you really need to expand the bath or not. Good luck with the new house!...See MoreRelated Professionals
