Layout for Small, Long, Narrow Living Room

My husband and I are struggling to figure out the right layout for our living room. It is long and narrow (12’x18’) with a fireplace at the short end. The person we bought it from had removed a couple of walls, so it is also mostly open.

We have our TV above the fireplace and want to keep it there. We have two boys (7yr & 7mo), so keeping things practical with room to play is important for us.

We are planning to replace our furniture. Currently we have an Article Sven sectional with left chaise facing the fireplace, but it doesn’t seem to fit the space the way we had hoped for, and we always run out of seating when guests are over - even just the grandparents!

I was thinking two small love seats parallel, with two arm chairs flanking them at the end. Next to the fireplace I like the idea of bookshelves.

My husband likes the idea of one sofa with two chairs - thinking the second sofa would be too much.

Any suggestions on how to best use the space?
