Furniture & TV placement for hard to decorate great room
Comments (14)Beautiful room even if it has so much going on with the off center fireplace, the windows, the door openings and the balcony. The way to make this room work is not to try to make it symmetrical. Consider the following: A TV over the fireplace is annoying to view. It is too high and I agree that it will go out of style for good. Consider locating the TV on the left wall under the balcony. Treat that entire elevation as one unit including the second floor. Paint the entire wall, the overhang and the second floor wall a dark color (midnight blue) and mount the TV on the wall with a narrow bookcase so that it cleans up the door openings, the balcony and overhangs. Paint the railing also and the rail itself - black. With the seating, a sectional will streamline the room and focus on the window and fireplace. Because of the high ceiling, you have the option for a higher back sectional. On the big blank wall (with your existing wall unit) invest in large art or a series of work to be grouped together creating a statement. Fireplace would be TV Note dark gloss wall...See MoreHelp with furniture layout + TV placement / build a breakfast nook?
Comments (27)When the sofa faces the window, the chaise completely blocks the fireplace and looks like a fire hazard. Since you're open to some construction, you may want to consider removing the mantle, adding brick up to the ceiling, then mounting the TV lower than where the mantle is now so it's more comfortable to watch when the sofa is facing the fireplace. If you remove the radiator in the dining table area, will you also be able to remove the 27" and 24" wide wall bump outs on each side? If you can, you'll gain valuable space and may be able to use the table and chairs you have now....See MoreHelp! TV in room placement (electrician needs to know asap)?
Comments (26)So we love the brick and wouldnt want to cover it up + we could use the extra storage space. We’re also going for a more MCM vibe, given the house is pure MCM architecture and well, we like that style… and so MCM furniture is one way to create that vibe vs cs. just normal modern. The reason we like grey is because it’s a neutral and we’re not a fan of the wall paint providing the color, because you are stuck with it (until you paint again) and it can be over-powering (unless that’s what you really want)… where as we like neutral because it allows us to layer in color and texture, etc. and balance a vibe through iteration. That said, we were considering going with a cool white instead (maybe BM Decorator White), but are unsure… @JustMe - Any specific BM white you like?...See MoreSmall cabin with challenging tv placement
Comments (8)I wondered if moving TV to loft was an option but you hadn’t mentioned so I didn’t either! So, dining - yes! If you need seating for 6 you sure do need more dining seating too. That lovely draw leaf table seats only 4 even with both leafs extended & pulled away from wall of course. I have that exact table down to same legs! It was in breakfast nook of prior house but lives in bonus room of current house. Makes a great games, puzzles or project table. Maybe it could live in your loft in place of desk I see in corner? If TV gone, that gives you lots of flexibility for a larger dining table that’s pulled away from wall & rearranging seating aound FP for great conversation & entertaining grouping. New less bulky sofa - the upstairs one? A larger area rug in seating area. Is there enough room for sofa to float & have back to kitchen? Chairs back to staircase? That would open up entry into LR....See MoreAngel 18432
