how best to set up 2 sets of washers/dryers?
Comments (18)Thanks to all of you for the additional thought. We bought this house at the "dried in" stage, so we're sortof stuck with the way they designed the rooms. There is a huge "playspace" above the 3 car garage, but it has no windows and is in an "out of the way" space. It has sloped ceilings and a dropped floor...... you can tell it's not my favorite room. LOL. Anyhoo, I'd have loved a laundry room on the 2nd floor. But since there isn't a good spot to have it there, I'll have to just do the 2 sets on the main floor and make the kids tote their things around. Same goes for having a laundry room by our master. OUr closet isn't large enough for me to want to put it in our closet. And the only other nearby room is dh's study (which I already tried to steal for an even larger closet.... he said "NO". he, he. :o) gs~ I don't know of any downsides to having a stackable near your bedroom. You can just do the laundry when you aren't trying to sleep. :o) I'd put one in my master closet if I had the space. Wouldn't that be awesome?! Solie~ Yep, we're having 2 dishwashers in the main kitchen. There's a kitchenette on the 3rd floor for the bonus room and guest suite up there. We'll have dishwasher drawers for that one. Thanks for the thought.... we definitely have backup problems with our current house and only 1 dishwasher! rhome~ You are so funny.... needing room for beds. LOL! You know, I'm with you. I've always wanted a huge laundry room. Call me strange.... I love laundrymats (maybe because I don't have to use them anymore?.... ha, ha). I love to be in the laundryroom and hear the hum of the machines. I always have to be working or doing something with my hands it seems, so even watching a movie I have to iron or something. Thus the tv in the laundry room. I KNOW I won't be watching the ones in the other parts of the house. It's just not really my thing. Okay, I got way off topic...... Salena, I hadn't thought about w-d-d-w. Good idea. I think I'll do it that way! :o) Thanks. Allison~ Good reminder. Can you imagine me getting the room all set up and realizing the doors are all wonky and wrong, and I can't get the clothes into the next machine. Yikes. Thanks. ;o) Gardenspice~ I love machines under the counter. It would be awesome to have the extra counterspace, since it's too tight in the room for the island I hoped to have. I chose machines that are extra tall (dh and I are both fairly tall), so I know they won't fit under a counter. And my cabinetry budget is already thru the roof with 2 kitchens and umpteen baths. But I will think on that. It would give me the extra countertop that I'd love to have. Hmmmm...... Thanks everyone. I'm happy to finally get 2 sets of machines, however they are set up. Wish I could do the 2nd set by our master, and a 3rd set upstairs for the kids. But I'm not complaining about the 2 sets on main floor. It will still be a treat. :o) Just for fun..... here's the fabric for the roman blinds in that room. Cabinetry will be kindof a sage/olive with a dark glaze rubbed into the distressed wood. Machines will be red. HOpefully it won't look like Christmas in there. :o)...See MoreStacking washer and dryers of different makes
Comments (24)I was able to stack non-compatible pairs or non-stackable pairs models of Samsung Washer and Dryer. The washer broke and we brought a new Samsung Washer WF42H5000. Older Samsung dryer model is DV206AES/XAC. As per Samsung the new washer WF42H5000 was stackable only to a relatively new dryer model DV42H5000EW/AC. But we were not happy to buy a new dryer as old dryer was working good. This is what we did: 1. New Samsung Washer WF42H5000 will be at the surface. Stacked the old dryer on top of it. 2. Used old (which was already existing in the previous set-up) stacking kit. I don't know its name. 3. The handy man bored/drilled new slots in the behind of the washer so that the steel bracket from dryer correctly fitted to the new washer slots. That's it, we were done. 4. The washer runs without any problem, no vibration. It runs normal. 5. The main problem which we foresaw was how the steel brackets will come into correct slot but that was achieved by the handy man as he bored/drilled suitable slots to the new washer to fit the steel brackets from dryer. Please make sure that both washer and dryer are of same width, in most cases it will be same, say 27 inches....See MoreHow on earth do I choose a front-loading washer and dryer?
Comments (11)Things to think about before selecting a machine... how 'available' is service locally??? If you're talking with a 'big box' store... ask what town the service will come out of for the BRAND you are buying... you may have to calll the customer service number for the manufacturer to figure out where the closest wuthorized service is... do you want a 'heater' which will insure you 'hot' wash is really hot, or to enable a "profile' wash... starts out cold and then heats up tto the desired temp... supposedly the 'best' way to get your clothes really clean... do you want the sanitizing function (towels, underwear, diapers, socks, gym clothes... that type of thing... but alll must be able to handle HOT water... hotter than typical hot wash Steam... supposedly this helps with wrinkles... (personally I haven't figured out if those with this option here realy use it or like it yet)... all will use less wter, spin faster, and leave your clothes drier when they come out of the wash... all will require you to use HE detergent, preferably powder... and preferably to leave the door ajar when not in use to help with mold/smell issues... then... the flooring question, which your answer solves many problems people have... concrete seems to be the 'perfect' answer for the 'vibration' caused by the high spinning... again this is a very construction dependent problem... I personally have no problems with my fl on the second floor of my house... others here have had major problems with vibration... then... go look at them... looks are very different... are ou swayed by the colors... since they are in your basement, maybe not??? each machine out there looks a little different from the other... open the doors, spin the drums around, open and close the soap compartment a few times... what do you like the 'feel' of??? persoanlly I think the dryers are a non issue... and you may or may not even want to get a matching dryer... the more 'normal' looking dryers are MUCH cheaper and just as functional.... decide what you want for features... then go touch and feel models that fit those features... remember whirlpool makes a lot of the 'typical' brands (sears, maytag, kitchen aid... and I believe others)... so there you're buying by different features on different machines... whatever you decide, go online before they install and get a copy of the instructions and print them and make sure they follow them... get your shipping bolts from the installers and any other 'tools' that you should receive from them... and make sure they level the thing properly... and tighten the legs... good luck...See MoreStack Washer & Dryer to make room for Utility Tub?
Comments (7)I have quite a few children, and for ten years I had a laundry closet like the OP posted. I now have a laundry room that includes a utility sink. I have a TL washer, btw. Anyway, the point is that my washer runs at least 15 loads a week and I spend a lot of time processing laundry. When we renovated this laundry room, we installed an enormous "D" shaped utility sink, deep and wide, replacing the huge utility sink, in a 28 inch cabinet. In the ten years that I have had that sink, we have used it about 50 times. In fact, to avoid plumbing issues, we have shut off the water to the faucet. Anyway, stacking units are great space savers, but ask yourself how often you will use that sink versus the inconvenience of a stacking unit. I would rather put the money somewhere that enhances the value of your home or save it for your next home. There is so much pressure to have a high-tech laundry room complete with cool decor, but really, its just about cleaning the clothes and if the need for soaking things in a sink is rare (unless you have babies or family members with medical issues), I wouldn't rearrange that space. It's really adequate, simple yes, but it will do the job. Save your money!...See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
