What did you get for Christmas?
Comments (38)Every time I make turkey in the oven, the cats come in and sit in the kitchen looking at us. I had a lively orphan kitten once when I was in college that I raised with a bottle. He was an adventurer. One time we had my moms sister stay over and the family were all going to get together so she had bought a deli assortment platter to take to my grandma's house. My mom just got out of the shower and was in a towel checking on something. She saw the kitty ready to jump to investigate the platter. When we heard the yell for help, we all came running. There was my poor mom holding onto the towel with one hand, and the other holding the platter up high with the little kitty climbing the swinging towel which was threatening to come off any second. My aunt just laughed and laughed. She still talks about it. That kitty was so smart. He could open doors and cabinets and he loved to go for car rides with us. Comments (10)Unfortunately, I can't think of a way I could help. Back in 1995, veterans were gathering to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the end of the war. When I volunteered to help, I was contacted by vets looking for buddies they hadn't heard from in decades. I found hundreds of them. It was a wonderful experience. I simply used software that had phone directories for the U.S. It was state-of-the-art at the time, but very ho-hum 12 years later. If I think of anything, I'll let you know. Comments (1)I had a very quiet Christmas, and just as well because it was a stinking hot day (35C at 7am!) and there was no energy to breathe, much less anything else. My son and his lady came for breakfast, the first of many visits they had scheduled for the day. This was just fine by me. I got them when they were full of Christmas spirit, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, and by the time they left their appetites were ruined for everyone else's food! The best part of the breakfast was that THEY did all the cooking - I just 'supervised' and provided the food. We had a lot of fun and laughter together exchanging our little gifts, and when they left, I was able to recuperate by sleeping most of the day in front of the fan, or beginning to read one of the several books they gave me (from a list I'd prepared of Must Haves). My sleep was, however, disturbed by a number of phone calls from interstate friends, all very welcome. And in the evening a friend visited, ostensibly to watch Dancesport on TV with me (we are both into ballroom dancing), but mostly to escape her rowdy family at home after a mountain of a day. (She often uses my place as a refuge when things get A Bit Much.) In between these interuptions, I had the opportunity of watching all those silly little Christmas shows on TV. You know, Frosty the Snowman, The Little Drummer Boy and so on. I have a sneaking liking for these little things - maybe I'm in my second childhood! All very pleasant indeed, thank you....See MoreGarage Sales - What did ya get?
Comments (6)Let's see...I got a bowling ball for $1 which I'm going to decorate for the garden. I found a cool chair w/removeable seat which I'll plant. I got a neat denim dress for my soon-to-be chair lady. Some Xmas ornaments..I like the colored, shiny balls hanging from my bare trees in the yard. The weather wrecks them, but at 25c a box, it's pain-free to pitch them after Xmas. I love burning candles and got more of them. Also got some great snowman chair covers for Xmas dinner. One place had neat handmade jewelry and a couple good books. Got some Pampered Chef gadgets, too. Hit about 10 sales, all in my neighborhood. I think I spent a total of $15. I was surprised at the pricing at a few sales...really high and not negotiable. I passed those by. My golden rule is 10c on the dollar for pricing, although if I see something I really want, I do amend that....See More- 5 years ago
