lainy, I keep making indoor bouquets too--they don't last as long as outdoors but at least I can enjoy the fragrance. Only the strongest have any scent outdoors when it is cold. Wonder if it would be worth learning how to dry the buds and blooms--my aunt does some gorgeous stuff with hers but I've never tried. Ken, mine have yet to see a freeze of any kind. It is doing the usual midwestern wackiness here--60 yesterday, highs in the 30s today, thunderstorms projected all week but no freezing temps yet or snow, very springlike. Both in going dormant and deciding when to emerge mine frequently have to deal with wild weather swings and mixed signals to say the least. During vicious springs when they freeze back (sometimes more than once) after leafing out I have to convince myself that anything meant to grow here will take the climate craziness. And they don't ever die, just lose more cane some years than others...

Hi Deanna, Bulbs store energy for the plant that can tide it over during rough times. So, rotted stems are like busted stems, as long as the bulb is large enough to support itself through next year (its not a tiny bulblet) it will come back, just a little smaller. This may result in a smaller plant with fewer blooms the first season but it will otherwise be fine. The thing to check is whether or not the bulbs have healthy looking roots. In the Fall if you find that the bulb and roots are rotten I wouldn't bother to plant it. Stressed bulbs often will decide to take a season off and not send up foliage (or abort growth already started). Instead it will spend its time growing new roots. So that doesn't mean they are dead. It sounds like your stems got the fungal disease botrytis possibly from overwatering. With your curled up new sprouts (possibly lieing along the soil) this would be an easy thing to have happen. Putting late planted bulbs in pots is usually a good idea since you can use sterile well draining soil and, depending on where you put the pot, control watering and sun. So don't hesitate to do that in the future. Botrytis strikes plenty of lilies in the garden as well. I'd cut away any diseased foliage (and throw it out securely) and spray the remaining foliage and the pots soil surface with a rose fungal spray. I am writing about the artists who have passed away between 1959 to 2009. This is a sample of what I have for Mr. Allman Born November 20, 1946 Ã¯Â¿Â½ Died October 29, 1971. As the guitarist for the Allman Brothers Band, Duane is best remembered for their hit albums The Allman Brothers Band, Idlewild South and At Filmore East. Duane was not only an accomplished session musician but was ranked #2 out of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time. Mr. Allman died from injuries he sustained in a motorcycle accident at the age of 24. The bios are brief and to the pointÃ¯Â¿Â½.no fluff Ã¯Â¿Â½ no scandals and nothing that would embarrass the family. Hardly what I would call "distasteful" but they are only going by the "subject" of my book. Their loss! The thing about my book is you will either remember the photo of the artist, the name, the group or the song. For instanceÃ¯Â¿Â½.ever heard of the artist Wells Kelly? Probably not but IÃ¯Â¿Â½ll bet you remember his group "Orleans" and the song "Still the One".

Nope - didn't get it. But, if you other peeps will bear with us, I'll tell ya what I sent. Noticed that you had done work reuniting WWII vets. I've tried to locate a servicewoman who served on Leyte and have had no luck, whatsoever. Haven't found her name on any service roster, etc. I have an item that I would love to return to her or to her family.

Think it's something you could help me with, or maybe give me some additional info to help me?

Unfortunately, I can't think of a way I could help. Back in 1995, veterans were gathering to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the end of the war. When I volunteered to help, I was contacted by vets looking for buddies they hadn't heard from in decades. I found hundreds of them. It was a wonderful experience. I simply used software that had phone directories for the U.S. It was state-of-the-art at the time, but very ho-hum 12 years later.

If I think of anything, I'll let you know. Don't you wish GardenWeb email worked better?

Thanks for all the work that you did for the veterans. My dad was in the infantry and WWII vets hold a special place in my heart.

Sorry you didn't have any answers for me, however. I'm gonna keep looking!

I have a subscription to an online locater service. As long as the phone number isn't an unlisted number, I should be able to get it... and even when the phone number is unlisted, it often still gives a street address, town, and zip code.
