Geeze...just when I thought I was organized...

I can see my driveway from my second floor window when I sit at my dressing table. I noticed a day or so ago, that parts of the driveway were wet - we've had no rain so I wondered about that.

This AM, DS took me to buy new yard waste trash cans (Waste Management danged to pull the handles off of both last week!). When I walked out in the driveway, I saw raw sewage. Yikes! I've had problems before - many times. About 8 years ago, I had all the waste pipes in the basement and those that ran through the basement garage replaced. They had sunken back toward the house instead of going out the back and down a small hill to the main sewer line. Age... So one week with the plumbers here, dug up floors, new concrete and about $4500 later, I was "fixed".

We still had concerns as in the past, if that line got clogged with tree roots, it would cause raw sewage to back up in my basement or come up in the basement toilet! So the owner of the plumbing contract business suggested putting a clean-out drain just outside the garage in the driveway, and not screwing the cover on - just sitting it on top of the drain. That way, if there was a back-up, the sewage would end up in the driveway and not the basement.

And that is what we did and twice they've had to come and use a huge snake and get tree roots out of that line to the sewer. It was summer and I just took a garden hose and hosed the driveway down throughly and splashed a couple of bottles of Clorox around.

My son is here so one more person showering and using the toilet. He went ahead and took his shower and shaved. Five more people coming for dinner tonight. Need to run the dishwasher before the caterer comes to fix and serve the meal. Need to run it afterward. Need toilets. Need this thing FIXED!

They're supposed to come between 1-4 and fix it. I hope they'll take pity on me and hook up a hose and turn the water to it on and wash down the driveway. DS is unlikely to want to do this when he gets back to my house. Yard man does not come until Fri but if I have to wait, at least it's quite cold out so no odor.

I pay a small monthly fee for insurance against this happening so there should be no charge. That will be welcome this time of year, but I was SO organized and prepared so this party would not end up being a problem.
