Pattycakes, I'm glad you don't think velvet is dated. It's either that or taffeta, LOL, I found a real steal on some lighter milk chocolate taffeta fabric today that's pretty hard to resist, price-wise, so I may use that instead. Pmartin, that cording is blue, brown and almond like the silk, and I'll use it on the outer seam of the duvet. Tomorrowisanotherday, you sure know your paint - you absolutely nailed it on the recommendation of SW Macadamia! I went by Sherwin Williams today and picked up some sample strips, and the Mac matches the silk perfectly.....it's such a pretty color! I think that would be ideal for the wall color. If DD wants to go with another color, Quietitude or Rainwashed both looked great with the toile Four Seasons. It's great to have choices...... Deeinohio - great idea about making the headboard a slipcover, I'm working on that idea. The only problem with that is that I wanted to tuft the headboard, or use nailheads, and I can't do that if it slips on and off. I'm still on the fence thinking that over. Kimiko232, I agree, a milk chocolate would be better than a deep, dark brown. I'm afraid if it's too dark that would be too strong against the lighter almond and robins egg. I'm hoping to get a soft, airy look for the room, so think I need to stay on the lighter end of the color spectrum. Thank you all for your comments and advice. I'm learning a lot as I go. I found a tone on tone silk stripe remnant today that matches the silk in the duvet that I decided to use for the chair, instead of a darker brown. I think that will look better, especially since the walnut stain on the chair is already so dark that a darker brown would just be too much of the same color. I'll make some decisions on the upholstered headboard within the next few days, now that I have some direction.

How wide, meaning how high, is that headboard? Assuming that's a 26" Euro, it looks like if you raise the headboard just another couple of inches, it'll be a good height. If you do end up with a gap, you could either add height to the mattress via a thicker mattress pad, or you could add a trim piece to the top of the headboard before upholstering. Actually, the thickness of the batting around the edges (depending on how much batting you use) will add another 1/2" to 1" to the overall dimensions of the headboard. You could do a cleat, btw, if you mount it on a furring strip OR use beveled lumber as your cleat, which is how my headboard is mounted!

Get a serene art work for over the bed with an abstract woodlands or water image. Then do plain white cotton or linen bedding with a blanket or throw in a color pulled from the art work. Add a cozy rug. A large mirror over the dress will pull in light from the window. Get natural bamboo shades or white linen curtains that can be pulled closed at night. Note simple white curtains. I love this woodlands scene, which is like another window letting in nature. Add a small desk, chair, and folding luggage rack.

Photo#2: I decided against the headboard cushions because I am getting an adjustable bed frame. Here are the lamps installed. I really like their practicality, and I am pleased with their look too :0: Now I am going to work on the exterior too if you want to have a look here ;)
