Unfortunately I will be with 4 or 5 other people at work. I did sign up for it, though, so I can't complain.

I am scheduled to minion that night. Alone. That's okay with me.

I'll probably be home alone too - that's normal for me. my sister invited me over but doesn't know if it'll be eve or day. eve will make it late in the day and I'll be tired and it'll be dark to drive home (maybe a mile). so I'm hoping it's the day of and I'll go down the road for an hour or so then I'll come home to my pup, fix her a treat and we'll curl up to watch a few Christmas movies.

He used to work out of town a lot, many times in other countries and I was often alone for Thanksgiving and/or Christmas. Sometimes I accepted invitations to go spend the day with friends and other times I chose to stay home.

I really enjoyed those quiet days at home when I could do whatever I wanted. I'd make myself something special to eat (I mentioned in another thread that one time I cooked a cornish game hen and a pumpkin pie on the wood stove just for the heck of it) and do whatever I wanted. I might rent a bunch of movies, spend the day in my studio or lose myself in a book.

I always figured Christmas was when we got together. It often was several days after the 25th. This year my son will be here and am having some friends join us. There will be seven of us. Some years it's just been the two of us and that's fine. too.

I'll be alone. It was always the two of us, I'd cook a turkey and we just enjoyed the day. People ask if I'll be going anywhere. I'm quite happy being by myself. I doubt I'll cook a turkey, maybe a small roast, a stew or something, but I'm fine with that.

I did buy lottery gift packs with our names on it! We gave that to each other along with a gift.

We don't really do Christmas with just the two of us. When we have kids, we will, of course, but for now it's just a hassle as we don't exchange gifts.

Celebrating Christmas in my family is always a moving target. The extended family is widespread and so my sibs often travel out of town for the holidays to visit their kids and grands and then I often spend the holiday alone. There is usually always some family around I could spend the day with but getting to them has become awkward and I don't care to spend half the day driving or riding ferries. I actually enjoy spending the day to myself.....and of course the dog :-) I'll cook a special dinner on Christmas eve, often go to a movie on Christmas day and otherwise just relax.

Periodically, every few years, we will have a family reunion Christmas in Mexico. Last time there were more than 40 of us! That is always fun and with minimal Christmas season hassles. This year, all the offsprings and their offspring will be traveling here for Christmas, most arriving this weekend. Not all of the family will be together on the day but we will have several family gatherings over the week they will be here so a chance to see and spend time with family members I rarely get to see otherwise. Still not sure what I will be doing Christmas day other than joining the closest bunch for dinner.

The most difficult part is not being able to spend more time with my kid, my stepdaughter that I raised for 14 years. We are very close but she lives 2 hours away and needs to visit with both her dad, my ex, and her biological mom. Now she has a SO and has her own Christmas celebrations, this year in a new home they just moved into last weekend. Her birthday is the 28th so we do try to get together at some point over the holidays to celebrate that. She and her partner will be traveling to join us on the 27th for a family gathering and I am so looking forward to that!!

I will be alone and just fine with that. I haven't decided if I will do something special for dinner or not. I will probably talk with my friend that lives on the other side of the country. She is alone as well and also doesn't mind it. She came for our traditional week at Thanksgiving and had a great time. I really don't miss the hassles of travel at Christmas when I used to live out of town and come home every year.

I'll be alone as well. That's ok though as it will give me a chance to start deleting some of the 18,000 emails I have let slide! Might be more of a 9 to 5, seven days a week job though!

Sort of. I’ll be alone in the morning then son comes over and we make a Christmas brunch. Later we’ll go to my mother’s for a simple dinner, which is honestly kind of torture. I don’t mind being by myself. Had plenty of big christmases when the kids were little. It was fun but exhausting.

We will be alone...and don't mind it at all. The day after Christmas, Jody is going to Florida to visit family. He will be gone about a week, and I will be home alone. Except for worrying about him, due to his health problems, I enjoy time alone.

I plan to take up the carpet in the living room in this trailer and put down vinyl tile. Another thing I want to do is finish moving stuff into the new barn.

He is taking my truck, and I really don't trust driving his, so I will be staying pretty close to home.

A LOT of people volunteer Christmas Day. Giving back to the community and helping others. What a GREAT way to get out of the house.

I will be by myself on Christmas Day. If you have a hubby, how do you consider yourself “alone”? As a widow, I would be so thankful to have mine to share Christmas Day with! To me, Christmas is actually the day all of my family can be home...and this year, it will be the 22nd so that my Grandson can be here from Minneapolis.

When I say "alone", I meant we wouldn't be spending it with family or friends. We have a daughter but the family she married into is big on holiday celebrations, so she always goes there. Except for a niece and nephew that I am not close to, I have outlived all of my family. My husband has two sisters who live a long way away and they are busy taking care of one sister's sick husband. My husband has a brother, but he is such a drug addict that he is practically brain dead. He has a few relatives living in Florida.

I am sorry for all who have lost their spouses or other family members, or wish they could be closer with their family. I never had a very close family, and I don't miss it. I would be very sad and depressed if I didn't have my husband, and it seems likely that I will face that due to the lung disease that he has.

Marylin....sorry for your husband’s illness. Enjoy his presence while you have him. I have lost two dear husbands unexpectedly and it can be very lonely at the holiday seasons .

After swimming today I stopped at SAMS for salad greens, frozen veggies, a nice big bag of craisons, bought eggs too, and some Vitamin E capsules. Next, Aldi, I was looking for a boneless turkey roast. None there, but tomatoes, mushrooms, and sliced salami made it to my car... last and final stop, Buy4Less, bought a Cornish Hen and some powdered milk (great for when you run out of the regular kind) and some Yukon Gold potatoes. I am now all set for Christmas! :)

I'll be alone, as the only close family near enough to celebrate with is son, and he's a fairly strong atheist - travelled to a conference with them in a rather distant U.S. state (think it was Texas) a couple of years or so ago.

So Christmas is like any other day, to him (with a bit of negative atmosphere added). When I said that son says that there is no god, he said that I was jumping to an erronous conclusion - that he says that if we can prove there's a god, that he's willing to pay attention.

My youngest brother and wife, retired farmer living on the last part of his farm in Saskatchewan who's had some health issues, were here for a visit this week, so they, son and I had a visit, including chat on speaker phone with my daughter in Atlanta. Brother was visiting their son (only "child") who's been teaching in Kingston (east end of Lake Ontario) for a few years, has two young daughters. We were three boys, with a ready-made stepsister acquired when we were teens. She lives in Regina, Sask. - close to the retired farmer brother.

The other brother was killed in his 40s in a car smash en route to work: two daughters, a son around early teens. His widow, son and one daughter live in or near Edmonton, AB, other daughter in Georgia - not far from my daughter.
