Window Blind Installation

I’m trying to figure out what’s the best way to install blinds in my window.

i don’t think I can do an inside mount because of the non-flat top of the window frame. But I’d prefer to not Do an outside mount.

Any suggestions?

Two possibilities come to mind.

Measure that outer narrow ledge and have a pair of trim strips cut the width of the inside of the window and attach the trim board to the top of the window -- glue and/or thin galvanized finishing nails. Then you have a wider flat surface inside and underneath the top of the window to which you can attach your blinds -- with the added bonus that there will be a deeper air space between blinds and windows by adding the blinds to the outer edge, perhaps providing some insulation value.

Are the SIDES flat so you could attach the brackets for the blinds on the two inside sides of the window?

If there is a Lowes near you, it is likely they will cut your trim strips to the size you give them. Do the same trim strip on each window in the room for uniformity / symmetry and the drapes will cover the window frame sides so the addition of the trim strips, painted the same color as the window frame, will never be noticed.

I have no idea which windows have what clearance, but if you do have to go with something that's smaller clearance, I can tell you what I did. My windows have 1 3/8 inch within the frame (Anderson). I used 1 inch wood blinds from Bali with an inside mount and 3/8 inch double cellular blinds. The 1 inch wood blinds works as far as the slats go, but the header does stick out, enough that it bothers me and I plan to cover it with a fabric valance. The cellular blinds fit perfectly and I like them much more, they are light weight and very easy to open/close compared to the heavy wood blinds. I have no idea how Roman shades would work. There's no way I could have fit 2" wood blinds on my windows with an inside mount with the clearance I have. I do like an inside mount, hopefully you can find a window set deep enough to let you have the blinds you like!

Should he/she of known...probably. That being said, plenty of folks in the window blind/shade install end of the equation have missed that before and unless he/she knows that the windows have that function, it would likely get overlooked. It is something that we now mention to our clients and are cognizant of after a couple of mistakes by salespeople. If it was a window person who also did shades/blinds...I would say yes. If he/she is just on the blind/shades side, easy to miss.

I would hang roman shades or bamboo blinds into the drywall high above the window (outside mount), just at the level of a high curtain rod, combined with curtains. Make the rod wider than the window so you can pull the curtains to the side and see the whole window. Ideally the curtains go to the floor. You can see examples of this in some of the pictures on this blog about window treatments, and it looks fabulous. Window blind/roller shade mount for casement windows

I have inside mount for my casement windows with blinds. You can change out the handles to either one that folds or a smaller one that looks like a T. I don't know if you can use them on all brands of windows so this is probably something you would want to check out if you are interested. If you know your window brand, I'm thinking their web-site will offer several different handle options. Though more than likely you can find them elsewhere, too.
