Climbing Rose that Blooms on New Wood? & Roses for part shade
Comments (11)Thanks Dan for the info, unfortunatly, blaze and new dawn both bloom on old wood. Golden Showers looks like a nice hardy climber though, and it blooms on new and old wood. Not sure if I would want yellow though- If anyone else has a few more suggestions for a new wood blooming climbing rose? I have been seeing "Shade Tolerant" in the descriptions of some roses (including the Golden Showers) and I figured that would mean they can withstand part shade. I was hoping this meant it could still do well with 3/4 hours of direct sun a day- can anyone clear this up for me? How tolerant is "shade tolerant" when it comes to roses? And of course, if anyone is growing a rose bush/climber/polyantha in part sun, I would love to know which kind it is. Thanks!...See MoreLooking for suggestions for a climbing rose to replace Mel's Heritage
Comments (8)Purezza would work, except I'm not sure about cool summers. We don't have cool summers at all here! He's a repeat-bloomer but not anywhere near continuous. I do know that (my) Renae wouldn't work. Maybe in full-full sun and cool temps, but not both, I don't think. I have to put mine in a lot of sun to avoid disease and improve vigor. Pink Mermaid would be lovely and blooms/puts on growth while it's still quite cool here, but she is pretty much a once bloomer. She's really gorgeous, though. Those are my favorites for that airy look with very tall climbers. My Sombreuil isn't big enough for me to know his growth habit yet, but I can vouch for the flowers myself, and they are wonderful!...See MoreHas anyone successfully grown a 'Can Can' Rose? Comments (42)It’s weird, I have one bush that really struggles, and the same bush that’s like 10’ away doing fairly well for the location (roadside)..the one that’s doing bad I blame on a maple tree that used to be right next to it..I just cut that tree down last year (hated the thing anyway) and the bush is doing a little better...not tremendously better..but I’ll know more after this growing season...this is also the bush that had issues with mildew (the healthy one never has) but again prior to maple tree being cut down...after tree gone, no mildew..it’s weird....See MoreHelp me choose container climbing roses for an Italian balcony
Comments (30)I haven't found 'Colombia' here so far. Do you think 'Felicia' would be happy in a pot in the heat? I've read that it could be trained as a short climber and HelpMeFind lists it as suitable for containers. Same questions for 'Eglantyne'. I also noticed a climbing 'Souvenir de la Malmaison' (stingy repeater?) and a climbing 'Yves Piaget' (the regular version blooms all summe here) in a catalgoue which I can't find much info about. I love Boncrow's suggestion of Clothilde Soupert but the climber sounds like it gets pretty big too....See MoreSheila z8a Rogue Valley OR
