Tell Amazon to stop selling unlabeled GE apples
Comments (9)“Given that the dsRNA from our food, and presumably the Frankenapple, will enter the bloodstream and cells of consumers, safety research should be done BEFORE this GMO apple is put on the grocery shelf to prove that the dsRNA that enters consumers' bodies will not harm them. The apple has the same gene deletion that golden raisins have. There is NOTHING ADDED, there was one gene removed. DNA (and other fragments of cells) from the food you eat enters your blood as fragments of DNA. It does that no matter what you are eating. It's called digestion. The fragments are disassembled into the constituent amino acids and recycled into something else. The DNA from an Arctic Apple is not more likely to damage me than the DNA from the organically grown heirloom chilis I use for salsa....See MoreDoesn't Amazon refund money?
Comments (7)As you probably already know, when you go through the process of returning online, there is a prompt that will ask if you want a refund or a credit but the default is marked to a credit. Sometimes when I go through it too quickly, I will forget to change that. Irregardless though, I think that charging you for it, must have been an error on their part and they still have not fixed it right. Instead of going through chat, which can sometimes result in crossed wires, you may want to call. There is an option where they will have someone call you instead and that has always worked really well for me....See MoreBuy ladybugs on Amazon?
Comments (4)Farmgardener, If you can find a supplier with good reviews, then why not buy them and release them? Your assessment that the recent heavy rainfall that dragged on for months and months may have negatively impacted your area's population of beneficial insects sounds logical to me. Why wouldn't they have been washed away in the floods? (After the flooding of 2007, we went about a whole year without seeing a snake. I thought maybe it was just us for whatever reason, but when I started talking to other people who were outdoors a lot---like our electric co-op linemen and such, they said they weren't seeing snakes at all either, and they were just as happy about it as we were. So if snakes can wash away, I bet insects certainly do.) We have not had the heavy rainfall a lot of y'all have had (before today's rain showers, our soil moisture level was down to a measly 0.08, which is pitiful) or it stopped months ago so the side effects have faded. I do remember a point this spring (maybe in March or early April?) when I looked around and felt like all insect populations were down--bad ones and good ones alike--except for stink bugs, which are here in such a huge population that I cannot even begin to describe it accurately---I have said we have 100 times as many stink bugs as usual, and really, that is not an exaggeration. Our good insects have shown up, but they seemed late to arrive in good numbers. Lady bugs were always here and fairly prolific, but assassin bugs and green lacewings were kind of late, as were some of the others. Oddly, now that they are here, we have 5-10 different kinds of assassin bugs all over the place, and usually we only have 2-4 different kinds. Maybe they've all been drawn here by the never-ending supply of southern green stink bugs and brown stink bugs. I have noticed a whole lot more bee assassin bugs than usual. Surely this is because we have a huge bee population, but since the bee assassin bugs are bad guys (most assassin bugs are good helpers in the garden), I've been spending quite a lot of time killing them. The insect world is so fascinating....who shows up (or doesn't) and when, where, why and how.... We rarely have aphids, and I think it is mostly because we have so many predator insects that feed on them that I just don't notice them because the beneficial insects gobble them up before they can reproduce much. A couple of weeks ago, I was weeding and looked up and saw oleander aphids on a butterflyweed plant in the garden. I don't think I've ever seen them in the garden before. I got up and walked over to the plant and noticed a lady bug a few inches from the aphids. I returned to my work, figuring the ladybugs would take care of the aphids for me. They did. When I checked the plant a couple of days later, there were no aphids in sight. Who doesn't need lady bugs in their garden? If a lot of your population washed away, I think releasing them would be a great first step to helping them re-establish in your area. Comments (99)Madilee, I ordered from Chewy last week because we were running low on cat litter, and I also ordered enough to qualify for the 2 day shipping. Well, it's been almost a week and I still haven't gotten confirmation that it's being shipped. I tried to get it from Walmert-but they were out at my local store. Thought I'd try Amazon, but the only litter they had that my cats will use was not only more expensive than in the stores, but it also was about 10 days out. I had also ordered some canned cat food-they kind my cats prefer was out, so I had to get a 3rd choice. I ordered some baking soda for the cat boxes-since we can't empty them, just clean them out until we get more litter, and a case of strawberry jam, because I didn't feel like going to the grocery store. The canned food came within a day, the baking soda two days later-still no idea when the jam will arrive. Meanwhile hubby has PB & Honey sandwiches. I'd ordered a new desk chair since my old desk chair was not designed to be used for 8+ hours a day-oh my poor hind end! Amazon said it would arrive in 10 days (even though it was Prime) but it arrived 2 days later. I did order some outdoor toys for my grands through Walmart-a bounce house/ball pit, extra balls for the ball pit, and a covered sand table. They all said they'd deliver between 4/10 and 4/17. The balls showed up on Monday, and the sand table arrived yesterday. Still no idea when the ball pit will show up, I've not gotten a tracking # on that, but if I go back on the website it says if I order it to be delivered to the store it will be there in a week. I'm trying to be patient, I feel fortunate that I have the means to order things on line and I can pay a premium if necessary, but sometimes it does get frustrating. I'm unable to order normal groceries on line for either delivery or pick up. And Costco.com is sold out of almost everything I need. So I'm going to have to venture in to the store. But back to the OT, I have Prime and am ok with the delays. My Prime membership also includes free streaming, so that is worth it to us since DH is running out of shows on Netflix. Finally, GS-was it you who ran out of paper towels for pet messes? I purchased a couple dozen cheap bar towels for pet messes. We were going through a lot of paper towels when our cat with IBS was still alive, and it was my preference to do laundry rather than throw out so much paper. Costco often carries them, and in a pinch you can get them at Walmart as well. Check Amazon, too. I just ordered two dozen plain cloth reusable 'paper' towels off Etsy to use in my kitchen. I have a roll that are flannel & terry that are getting so worn out-we use them all the time....See MoreChi
