We have this odd little area....what do I do with it?
Comments (4)Could you get two single door cabinets, one of the shorter height and one of the taller height and fill in the small resulting gap with a filler? Barring that I see: Fill it in with a matching panel Fill it in with drywall and paint it the same color as the dropped area. Drop the ceiling at least as far as the gap I wouldn't call extra attention to it's oddness by doing something "different" with it....See MoreBreakfast Nook -- Odd space
Comments (11)Hi abbyjneuberger! Is this a new house for you? If so, congratulations! I like the idea of having a place for your children to do homework, maybe art projects, and the like. I also think it would be pretty awkward and difficult for a family with grownups to eat there, so I think you have it planned perfectly! I like Navy Momma's and Karenseb's ideas best. 16-18 inches is simply not enough room for an adult or teen to squeeze into, and if your kids ever had a friend who is heavy over, it could cause an embarrassing situation if they couldn't fit. 23" is a lot more user friendly. And don't forget, kids grow. What they fit around now might not be the same in a few short years. Also, I know you're trying to avoid table legs, but the idea of having it somehow moveable is a good one. Making the table smaller, as Karenseb suggested, thinner that is, is also a good idea. I know you'll figure it out and it will be great! Can you snap a pic for us when it's all done, so we can see how you solved this? :-)...See MoreWhat size rug? Odd shaped space
Comments (8)@aktillery9 I will post another pick to maybe show better what I mean! This is the view looking into the family foom. Kitchen is on the left and dining is on right, marked by two of those pillars. So a rug tucked under the sofa would just sort of start abruptly when viewed from this angle. Maybe I'm imagining that this will look odd ha ha!...See MoreWhat to do with unused breakfast nook area in kitchen remodel
Comments (6)We had a similar situation with seating at an island in the kitchen, a dining room we actually use, two outdoor dining areas, and no need for a true breakfast room. So, we bought two comfortable club chairs, a small end table to put between, and a console. That space went from a dumping ground to the most used spot in the house. It's great for morning tea, afternoon tea, a glass of wine while dinner is simmering, hanging out while the other is cooking, staying close to the kitchen while something bakes, etc. Being just inside the entry, your room looks ideal for a lounge, like your inspiration picture with the loveseat/high-backed bench. A friend turned a spot like that into a wine room with a tall wine fridge, small loveseat, end table, wine glass display cabinet, and a bookcase for wine references....See Moretedbixby
