Breakfast Nook Light - Take 2! (more options - what do you think?
Comments (32)They do -- and I like those. They caught my attention with the ones that were a little different though. Take a look at their website -- they have Italian marble and swirled alabaster shades in 14" and 16" sizes and in brushed nickel. You cans search the site by finish. You might find a local dealer who will order it for you if you don't find it online. I'm looking for a breakfast room fixture too -- probably a dark bronze or wrought iron with fat candles. I saw one in a store that I really like, but I don't like the shade on it -- they are butterscotch color and too dark. I'd really rather have white and they just say tough. Can't change them. The gal at another lighting shop who sold us our dining room fixture showed me a white glass that might work, so we ordered one and I'm waiting for it to come it. Meanwhile, I really don't want to buy from a store that offers no customer service (same story when we were looking for the dining room) but I saw this fixture when looking for the dining room fixture and haven't seen anything like it anywhere else. I've been looking at pendants thinking about replacing the recessed fixture we have in a dormer above our front entry. There is a window, but you don't even see the chain of the foyer fixture, so I thought it might be fun to have something you do see from the street. I've always liked that in other houses. I haven't seen anything that really grabs me -- especially for an area that will be so hard to clean. We put a small Christmas tree up there our first couple of years in this house. I loved it, but not having to go up the ladder and climb up there. Getting up on another ladder or step stool to clean a fixture once up there is not something I would look forward to, so I will have to love it to make the change....See MorePlease Help with Breakfast Nook Furniture (X-Post from Kitchen)
Comments (5)Thanks everyone! Mellyc123--Here's a photo (sorry it's so blurry) of the family room from when we first moved in. We've added some accessories and lighting, but the sectional, rug and credenza are the same. You can see it's much more masculine and darker wood and colors than the kitchen....See MoreBreakfast nook/dining area
Comments (9)Hi Rsh Grge, On the left hand side of the space where the wall is 7'3", you could fit a 24" round bistro table with 2 smallish chairs, angled so they look toward the door opposite. Then you have a space of approximately 9.5' x whatever space there is between front window wall and the door on the right wall, (probably 3.5') for two comfy reading chairs of no more than 32 x 32", with an 18" round table between them. If you'd like a breakfast table for 3 or 4, then figure on a 36" round table on the left with 3 or 4 small chairs, and on the right only one 32 x 32 reading chair and a round table of 18 to 20" beside the chair. Once you get the furniture in place, you'll see what kind of space you have left for plants. Fit in low bookcases where you can. Ikea is an excellent source for the bookcases....See MoreHelp with Breakfast Nook Area
Comments (32)Dining chairs with arms are much more difficult to get in and out of than those without arms, and must be scooted back a ways to do so. The depth of the curves on your chairs makes them almost as deep as arms. The metal protectors that came on my "good" dining set slide very well on the rug. The plastic ones we bought for the kitchen set can get dirt/sand imbedded in them if not used on a rug. My kitchen table is the same width and length as yours, although it's a rectangle so has more surface space at each end. We usually have 6 to 8 people for birthdays, holidays, etc. and with 8 people, putting the serving dishes on the table gets very crowded, but that may depend on how many offerings you have.
