Comments (23)Uptown Gal-they started with home parties, then they opened the Homestead in Ohio where they sold special baskets and home goods. We go to Ohio every summer, so I made it a point to visit. You can now purchase older baskets online, at a much reduced price than they originally sold for. I began collecting in 1989 and stopped counting when I hit 100. 6 years agolast modified: 6 years agoUpriver from Murraysmom- The Point in Pittsburgh where the Allegheny and Mononghela rivers meet to form the Ohio. The Allegheny starts in upstate PA near the NY border and the Mononghela flows north from W. VA. We spent our summers water-skiing on the 3 Rivers.

A mural ....it's HUGE! At least 10' x 6' At our local library. The sheer size amazes me.
6 years agoGrandson, Thanksgiving, after the meal. Intentions were to play checkers, as it was our special time when he was a youngster. I've kept the game just for the memory. Playing didn't happen :o)
6 years agoThe snake river in front of our house in MN flows into the St. Croix, which flows into the Mississippi.

Here's a bunch of losers from Mississippi's newly legal scratch offs..
We still had fun going to get them. And we did come out ahead. We had some winners.and if you subtract how much we spent, we came out 14 dollars ahead. LOL.Sigh. Still waiting for Alabama to get on board....

Rolling on the Tennessee River in Alabama in my hometown. The Tennessee flows into the Mississippi after stopping at the Ohio River in Kentucky a few miles upstream.

6 years agolast modified: 6 years agoI went to Mississippi when I was 14 and have not been back since, but I've crossed the river in Louisiana several times. Here's where I am now:
In the background, you can see Mount San Jacinto with snow on it, but it is 65° here, still quite chilly in the Coachella Valley and well below normal. Too cold for swimming, but not too cold for the spa/hot tub.
I've never lived in the Mississippi drainage basin.
