Anyone have problems with their pull-out trash cabinet?
Comments (35)One of my client's broke her pull out which is a cabinet door attached to a bottom mount pullout. She said she was pushing trash down into it (which I believe, she was probably cramming). She said drinking was not involved, (which I don't really believe). Anyway it can't be fixed without replacing the bottom of the cabinet since the screws split the cabinet floor when they pulled out. I think it is a design flaw, and would recommend a top-mount style....See Moretrash pullouts--what did you use?
Comments (2)I can't speak to any of your first questions, but your last question I can answer: definitely make the door part of the pullout mechanism. I've had friends with kitchens where the door was separate from the pullout, and they both report that the two-step process is unbelievably annoying. This makes sense to me, given how often you open the trash in the kitchen every day, and especially since your hands are usually full of gunk when you're aiming for the trash. In my kitchen, I made sure to make it a one-step opening. Hope someone else can help with the Rev-a-shelf and Ikea questions....See MoreKohler Prolific sink vs. having space for trash pullout
Comments (9)Here are two more threads about double trash pullouts under ikea sink http://ths.gardenweb.com/discussions/2418644/trash-pullout-under-sink http://ths.gardenweb.com/discussions/2408460/how-do-i-fit-a-double-or-single-garbage-pullout-under-the-sink All the threads mention "instructions on ikeafans" unfortunately ikeafans doesn't exist any more, I found this page on the wayback machine but it refers to a part from the akurum kitchen system, not sektion: https://web.archive.org/web/20140717230116/http://www.ikeafans.com/forums/kitchen-planning/3326-whose-kitchen-had-deep-drawer-pullouts-under-sink.html...See More30 in Whitehaven Sink with Ikea Sektion Base Cabinet
Comments (20)I too want to give a shout out to Kimmy for her detailed instructions. I just installed a whitehaven following them. I will add this the curve for the cutout is 4" so a 4" hole saw on your drill will give you the perfect cut then you can use your circular saw up to the holes on the sides and bottom. I don't own a jig saw so I used the same hole saw that I got to cut my butcher block with a reveal (also 4" obviously). In addition to Kimmy I want to thank Joseph for recommending Pete's sink mount. I realize most on this thread have already installed using Kohler's instructions but Pete's sink mount makes getting everything in and level super easy and you can adjust up or down with the sink in place unlike Kohler's 2x4 method. This is an FYI for anybody that comes upon this thread later. Steve - Ikea sells a kit to attach a door to a drawer that has a template to drill the holes. I realize you don't need the hardware but it might be worth it for the template. https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00280755/...See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
