depth of sink for undercounter trash can/ Silgranite vs SS
Comments (13)kitchendreaming, there have been threads on this - I started one about hearing the "white silgranit looks plastic-y" - you can search that thread, as initially I wanted the white one too. I believe the overall consensus was it will be ok if it is really the one you want - you can scrub it - (I think at least a couple folks on here have one), but if any will show anything, the white one would - as white anything of course would show crud, stains, etc. more than a color would. Make sure you see them in person. I wasn't into brown at the start, but now I think that one will probably work best in my case - good luck, and I'm sure we will love our sinks!...See MoreTrash Pullout Under 10" Deep Sink
Comments (30)Elaine Caputo, that is my set up, although my drain is offset to the rear center, but the drain pipe does run to and connect on the right side of the interior. It was easily done. I bought THIS REV-A-SHELF 2 bin pullout, installed on the left. I only use one of the tall bins that came with the unit - for recycling. I replaced the other bin with a smaller/shorter one for my trash - I didn't need such a large bin for trash, the smaller bin allows me to recycle grocery bags as trash bags, and leaves some room for whatever you like in the front. Of course you could use both tall bins. On the right, in front of the drain pipes, I put a 14" wide, 18" deep pullout. I think that there are also 2 tier pullouts that might work (depends on your pipes), but I installed a side wall mounted narrow pullout from Ikea above it (no longer made, I think). So, on this right side, I have my small lidded compost container (actually a small metal trash can), and plenty of room for my cleanser, sponges, rags, dishwasher cleaning tablets, and so on. The smaller, shorter items go at the back of the pullout to not bump the pipes. I keep frequently used tools (screwdriver, tape measure, flashlight) and a few other sundries in the wall mounted bin. I also have a garbage disposal and dish soap dispenser in there. My sink is a Blanco 28" (26" interior width) single bowl, and I love it's roominess....See Morehelp with trash pullout
Comments (10)Personally, I wouldn't want my silverware (or anything) in a drawer above the trash pullout. Will this be where your main trash sits? If you have a huge recycling center/trash center then you'll have items under there for a week or so. Will you have a compost bin under there as well? I may be wrong, but wouldn't odor and/or fruit flies find there way up into the drawer? We change our trash constantly, but there are those days when we open the trash in the morning and get hit by the odor of last night's dinner scraps that someone threw in the night before. Out goes the trash of course. But to have the silverware or anything above all night? Is that okay?? Our main garbage is a Simple Human trash can with foot pedal (this is the trash can that on occasion can get smelly). And then we also have a trash pull out. There is no drawer above our pull out on purpose. The pull out has two bins. One is used for compost scraps and the other is for light garbage (wrappers, paper, etc. No food scraps). Above the bins, inside the pull out, there is a shelf. We use this shelf for our fly swatter and feather duster....See MoreKitchen sink decision (Stages vs Prolific vs something else )
Comments (34)@Amy Banta I have the Prolific and I love it. I have never felt like the 18 gauge was not enough. I agree with what suzanne_sl says. There are other sinks with accessories, but nothing else really has the lower ledges like Prolific and I get a lot of use out of the lower and middle ledges. I have some extra drain boards and I keep those on the bottom of the sink so it acts as a "grid" and I scratch the sink less. It prevents banging. Grids can be hard to clean, but the drain boards fit right in the dishwasher. I love the middle ledge for hiding drying dishes, and putting things on the top ledge is great for filling things with water and washing things. I use all the accessories in many different ways. This design is so flexible. The only thing I don't love on the Prolific is the colander accessory. I feel like it doesn't drain as well as most colanders. I might try to drill more holes in it someday to see if that helps. Everything else about the sink is great. I've had it about 1.5 years now and it is still my favorite thing in our kitchen. If you think you would enjoy the ledges at different heights like I do, I would not let the gauge be a deterrent....See Morefabulatrice
