I played around with the furniture today and this is what I got. I do like the table turned and pulled out from the wall. But I feel like it’s even clunkier this way so I will have to get something more simple in design for sure.

The couch, surprisingly feels even cozier this way but the chaise looks out of place even though the girls are loving that nook. They’ve turned it into the art corner. I feel like I wouldn’t know how to decorate around the sectional with the chaise there. Where would the art go. I do like the little nook here though.

Could a small round table go in place of the chaise, like a breakfast nook, or is that over the top:)

For the dining room I'd like to sit 6, although it's just the 4 of us. I wouldn't mind a table that folds open to extend it out.

For the chaise put it at an angle like it is a separate chair and facing the TV with the side table between it and the sectional. Here's a rough sketch.

What is your budget for the dining furniture? There are lots of simpler looking tables to choose from, but a wide range of costs.

Lyfia, I like the last table with the black and white chairs. Can you add cushions to the chairs? I like a table that is not bulky and too cabin looking, if that makes sense. But not too minimalist and sterile looking either. The last one is nice! I really appreciate all your suggestions, you've helped me so much!!!

George, we have an ottoman that we use as a coffee table, although its more of a storage area. I agree a table would be nice.

well, ship-shape! the dining room actually looks like a room now and makes so much more sense! actually the whole space does, it feels more like 2 rooms now but still open! I agree to angle the chaise so it is part of the seating area.

1. the rug should go close to the sofa with maybe the feet of the sofa on the rug. if its too small time to upsize!

2. think about putting a sofa table behind the section that is backed to the dining room, it will make it feel more complete and a space to put some decor.

3. with these long walls think more about using the whole wall and what will work art wise rather than too much into over the sofa only.

I too like the way the table looks. But forgive me, I have no idea how to place the chaise without looking out of place. I like the idea of something g behind the couch. Is a sofa table like a narrow console?

I've been going crazy looking at media consoles, and I just can't seem to find something I like, and would go with my decor, grey couch and black piano. So far I'm liking this one the most but it's on 68", only 4 inches longer than the one I have. What do you guys think about it. Would medium toned wood look the best in the my apartment? Any consoles you like that might make my place nicer and more modern?

Hi all! I tried putting the chaise at an angle and I don’t like it at all. The space is darker and closed in. I prefer the chaise in the corner nook by the window. But that too looks kinda strange too although my kiddos and hubby all love this corner nook.

1. push the sofa back a little bit more toward the dining area.

2. put the tv in the corner where you had the chase

3. put the chaise where the tv was

I’m thinking the tv and console would block the light from the window. So I would now have a chaise next to the piano. hmmmm, I will try experimenting.

well you would have to get a new tv stand, (the one you have kinda needs to be replaced). Or use a small table for now just to set it on.

You are so right!!!! Yes I’m looking for one right now but not sure what to get, a black one , white one, wood one. Should it be lower and longer. I’m hoping to get one in the coming week or so.

Before you shop for a tv stand lets get the set up right, I suggest sliding the chaise over to see if my idea can work.

RL placing the console in the corner area are would be awkward. It would block the light from the window and we’d get glare during day time. I’m more confused then when I started this. The truth is, I like the space the sectional gives the room now, but I find we’re missing the extra chaise to lounge on when we hang out and watch tv. There U shaped sectional setup was more practical, even if not pretty.

If I decide to keep the tv on the wall it is now, how can I work with what I have to make it look nicer. Should place the sectional back together? I want to get a console, tv and carpet but I’m not sure how to approach this.

This was a good exercise though, and I thank you guys for helping me with it. You were right, the dining table looks better how it is. I also realize I’d like to create a cozy reading nook somehow in the living room.

If you mis the chaise put it back on the end but leave the sofa the way it is now so it looks out the window. Get a nice long console that puts the tv at a much better view height!

Honestly, i still don't know what color media stand would work on the wall next to my black piano. I'm leaning towards a wood color but I haven't found one I like. I checked some out in store, but they were poorly made. Any suggestions?

You are really not locked into anything, I would just go for a nice wood of your choice. Sorry but your space is still in process and in fact the tv console will help you start to pick other things.

It's almost 6 feet-that's quite long. Don't forget that the eye needs a place to rest as well. I like the idea of a large plant or even a tiered plant stand on the window end. A few plants can add so much to a room.

My current console is 62” and we plan on getting a larger tv to place on top. Our tv is around 40 inches now. Will that size console work with a larger tv on top?

Depends on the tv size, you want equil 1/3 left on either side if possible.

I finally bought myself a new console to replace the old chicken coop! Any ideas on what to place around it? Plants, the corner needs a light. Any suggestion as. Unfortunately I’m stuck with the big sectional for now.

You could add a tall plant in the corner with an uplight. It would light the corner and add visual interest as well.

Finally got A and placed at eye level like you all recommended. What a difference!!! I have to see how I can improve the space though as it looks empty and cold. I desperately need a light in the corner and a plant but not sure what kind or where to place them exactly!!!

The great thing about plants is that they will bring life to any room. Where they are placed depends upon the amount of sunlight required. Just do some reading before purchasing.

You need some picture/artwork on the walls, a larger area rug to start that will help a lot. And a couple large potted plants. ^^ Figs, mothers lounge would do well here.

I think it would look better there. I’d then move over the dining room set with a rug to ground the dining space. Some don’t like a rug in the dining area but I personally would have one there.

Not sure of the size, but you could try your current rug underneath it to see if you like it.

What about swapping the sectional and tv/console? That would give you more room on opposite side for the dining room set? Of course you’d have to be conscious of the TV volume.

Since the piano can’t be moved it does make it tough. your set up looks to be the best unless you’d like to try it like this...

If you replace the ceiling fan, you can swag light over to the table to give it more intent.

Take the picture you have over the sofa and put it over the piano, only just about 3" off the top of the piano.

It doesn't make sense to flip the sofa, because of the sliding doors open from that side, I would get a larger rug for there and for the dining room to define the areas.

It’s a tough set up but seeing that view, I think the way you currently have it works best. With a new table, rugs, larger art, a plant and accent pillows, you could really have a cozy room. Take your time and have fun with it!
