Comments (28)Mantis, Passion's Promise brings a smile to my face not only for its name but what a cheerful bloom. I love it ! and I agree with Brad on his comments on Morning Mood . How tall is MM by the way? You mention in your post " old Stamile daylilies" . Did he hybridize elsewhere other than Florida when he started out do you know ? And anyone know what year "old" Stamile cultivars became new Florida ones. I ask because I have tried to grow some Stamile's but more recent intros and they sure do not like it here. But Mantis you are in Ohio so similar growing conditions to me ( we are not that far from each other ) so I am wondering what the cut off time was between old and new so I can look for "old " Stamiles that just might do well here ....See MoreFavorite Daylilies That Defy Color Categories for 2019
Comments (43)Hi Celeste, honestly , I like it and I am not just saying that because I feel I have to now that I have said I like the weird ones. I like it for several reasons . One, because it has such subtle coloring . Now saying that , I also like daylilies that are very intense coloring but a yard full of intense colors needs something from which to bounce off . Two the contrasting midrib, I grow several that have odd colorings . Padmasana , Momentum , Pigment of Imagination , Olive's Odd One ,Spicecake etc. . Many would say these are " butt ugly" but I don't see that . I like the difference in these .. What I find " butt ugly " ( well not really butt ugly but boring ) are the round eyed daylilies ad infinitum . So when I see something like what you posted above that has so much going on in the bloom I would rather have that than a round pink daylily with some kind of eye . The shape of the daylily in your imageadds to the appeal . I also think that sometimes these kinds of daylilies are overlooked because we all fall victim to " the latest and greatest " as hyped by hybridizers . Comments (29)Kate - Thanks for comment about the Karelia seedling! I need to give it more space to see if can get more buds. Last season is had 15 buds on one scape and 12 on the other. I think it could do better than that if not surrounded by taller seedlings. It did increase to five fans last season, so I'm looking forward to more scapes next year. If you want to post more eyed and edged daylilies, go ahead. Our friends didn't have many. That's why I went overboard - to make up the difference, or maybe I'm just greedy. When I first started collecting daylilies, the watermarked ones and the ones with eyes and edges were my favorites. I still like them a lot, although I no longer add many of them. Magic Dancer has been a great performer here. And a bonus, it blooms later in the season here.
lovely Miss Laucious is fairly new here and was residing in an awful spot. She got moved this past summer and hopefully will do better. This was also a bonus I probably wouldn’t have ordered.
When My Sweetheart Returns was obtained locally and appreciated some shade.
Baby Blues Eyes has done great here, this one was a bonus plant, so glad I have it!
Real Wind will always be on my favorite list, an oldie but goodie!

Sherry, I also love your favorites! TDS is gorgeous - love its color combination! Claudine's Charm, Real Wind, and When My Love Returns are so lovely too.
My top favorite is Wild Horses.
Smallville finally performs this year.
Siloam Ethel Smith is lovely this year too.

4 years agoNice blooms, everyone! I especially like Westbourne Little Lamb, Cloud of Kisses, and Karen's sib #3. That eye on the seedling is special and the sepals are beautiful too!
Here are some of our eye no edge daylilies.
All God's Children is a small tetraploid.
This seedling will be our lone 2020 introduction. We haven't registered it so it has no name. It is Back Draft X Sam Abell.
Broadway Player is a fine small-flowered tetraploid.
Cranberry Winter bloomed for the first time this season for us.

4 years agoA lot of Trimmer's don't do well here, but Fire Bird Suite has performed well.
Heavenly Bengal Tiger is often an early bloomer for us.
I have tried for several years to get a good picture of Hidden Jewel (and finally got it). It is hard to photograph. It is a small-flowered tet.
Oktoberfest is a favorite orange of ours.
The last is Rocky Top, our 2019 intro.

Sherry, TDS is always so pretty-not surprised it is a favorite and I am always glad to see Real Wind. I love that oldie, too. Mine got lost in the “jungle bed” and I am pretty sure Bermuda grass ate it.
Karen, I, too, love that last seedling-what a gor color! And Nancy, the intro and intro-to-be are both really striking!
I looked at many of my pics and almost every one has some kind of edge or I have already posted under another category.

Karen - I love the clump shot of Wild Horses. I grew that one, but it never performed well here - no matter where I had it planted. I like all your seedlings, especially that last one!
Hoosier Nancy - I love your 2020 intro. I remember seeing it before and have always admired it. Heavenly Bengal Tiger always catches my eye.

Brad, your Maleny Debutante is very pretty. That green throat really pops. The color combination reminds me of Ruby Lipstick.
Celeste, all of yours are very nice but your purples and blues are always the most stunning.

4 years agoOne thing I love about all these posts is that they make me wonder what happened to some of the daylilies I had at one point in time and don’t remember what happened to them!! Maleny Debutante is one I once had, really liked, but has disappeared; Femme de Joie is another one. It was a great multiplier and everyone in the daylily club I was in had it! Years later I am wondering where is it? This is the problem when one has too much space! Celeste, Brad is right-purples rule!
Sherry, you are correct-I always think that about Get r Done. Here is mine.
