People see rose diseases differently. (Rose Rosette)

For well over a decade I've been dealing with Rose Rosette in my own gardens and in other folks' gardens as well. For other gardeners, I have often gotten a description of something wrong.

Sometimes it's the thorns, sometimes it's the lack of bloom, sometimes it's the leaves looking strange.

Today the Chicago Tribune gardening page had something that stood out to one gardener that I've seen, but I don't think most people see it as the first thing to go wrong with their roses.

Red canes! The photo they used showed red canes, but the canes were covered with an unnatural density of thorns/prickles. The writer chose to use "red canes" in the headline.

I'm sharing this because some of you may hear about red canes and ....well, we all see our roses differently. We have to ask the right questions to get quality answers. Which is why photos help when words fail us.
