The dishwasher thing makes sense if they are using perfumed detergents, probably one of the most common causes of childhood asthma is perfumes in the home.

They walk somewhere once a week.

Regarding dishwasher detergents - I use Cascade Complete, but when my brother and sister went to the store in Cathedral City to buy detergent for the dishwasher there, my sister insisted on buying Cascade Platinum because that was what was on sale. However, the Platinum version has more perfumes and makes all the food served on plates washed with it taste horrible to me.

Lars...thanks for the "heads-up". I tried liquid Cascade Dishwasher detergent last year, when a renter left a jug, It wasn't full & lasted a year! Love it!

They have asthma....?

I am very sensitive to scents and I use Cascade DW detergent and Palmolive dishsoap, both because of their lack of scents.

Medical sources do not support this contention. In fact, few of them even mention perfumes or introduced scents as even triggers for an asthma attack even when prone to this lung disease. Most medical authorities attribute the causes for asthma - not yet fully understood - to be a combination of environmental and genetic or inherited factors.

Most western medicine physicians don't recognize chemical sensitivities, that doesn't mean that chemical sensitivities don't exist.
