Need Living Space Area Rug Help!

Hey Everyone!

I just painted my basement, and its a lot of gray, i want to add a carpet that will give the area some color, thinking blue/green to match the large photo? any suggestions of what size or style to use? I am concerned with too large or a rug but not sure if that is my only option? the entire width of the room is about 10'

Here are some options for your room. That skinny framed seascape is pretty lost on the large wall IMO.

I couldn't help but notice that your furniture is angular, modern and monochromatic except for that bright blue chair.. I think it would make it more difficult to choose a rug with that piece in place, and the style seems to fight with the rest of the furniture. I also like aktillery's choice of rug best.

I think in this case I would consider having your sofa serve as a divider between your areas (so from the dining you would view the back of the sofa). Yes add a large rug where at least the front legs of the chairs, sofa, etc. are all on the rug. I am definitely digging the long drapery as opposed to the shade—just adds that extra something to the room. I would do a sofa table behind my sofa if there's room. It's looking great. OK. I have attached a pic of my living room. I have also attached a few pics of some rugs that have peaked my interest (the yellow flowers being my favorite). The only items in the room that will remain the same are the couch and loveseat. I'd like to keep my curtains if possible, but I'm not opposed to switching them out. Other than those 2 things, everything else in the room will be updated. Thanks for any input you can give!!

I kind of like this color palette for your room, so I might look for a rug that is less boisterous and has a light base with bits of the darker color throughout. Maybe even a bit of the color of your floor for some zip. Really like Night Train and Shoreline. If you're willing to go bolder with the green, it would be great to see something brighter and more rich than the wall color. I was going to suggest this gorgeous rug until I found out it's over $4k! These next three photos are supposedly of the same rug, but any way you go with it, I like the colors and subtle pattern for your room. The blue-grays and yellow-greens seem to work.

I love number three pic above. I think you can really go nuts with the rug and wall decor because you have a lot of neutrals in this space.

You'll want some real pattern down there since you have such large expanses of solid gray, tan, and the wall. Choose a rug that harmonizes with the tan floor, has a small amount of gray to link with the sofa, and some blue to link with the art.

Once you choose your rug you may want to pick up a color or two and pick pillows or throws to add some punch in this very gray room. You may also want to use one of those colors for a table covering to add some softness. Good luck.

Notice how big the sample rugs are. Don't skimp. They should slip under the front 1/3 of the seats and extend past the ends by a foot or more. Tape it out on the floor with painter's tape and measure. If it isn't a standard size, go up in size if you can.
