Need Help with Living Room Area Rug Ideas
I am having a hard time picking out a new area rug for my living room. My curtains are primarily ivory/beige with light and dark gray, mustard, and yellow. My couch is like a sage green color. I have added pictures for reference. I would like the color scheme to be earth tones, but lean more toward gray. I still need to pick out a color for the walls but don't want to do that until I find a rug. So...should I go with a solid color rug or one with a pattern? If I do a solid color rug, would a darker earthy gray color look ok or would a lighter color look better? If I go with a pattern, what type of pattern would work with my curtains? Any advice would be much appreciated!! Thanks!

Comments (26)I kind of like this color palette for your room, so I might look for a rug that is less boisterous and has a light base with bits of the darker color throughout. Maybe even a bit of the color of your floor for some zip. Really like Night Train and Shoreline. If you're willing to go bolder with the green, it would be great to see something brighter and more rich than the wall color. I was going to suggest this gorgeous rug until I found out it's over $4k! Comments (5)Your current setup is lovely. I wouldn't rush to replace that rug, particularly not with something that's going to be so neutral and a bit "meh" in comparison to what you now have. I think your current rug plays so nicely with your furnishings that I'd wait until everything was in place in the new house and then see how you feel. Our old things have a way of looking surprisingly different in a new home. If you do decide to replace the rug, I'd personally opt for something with a pattern and more personality than the rug possibilities you've shared. OK. I have attached a pic of my living room. I have also attached a few pics of some rugs that have peaked my interest (the yellow flowers being my favorite). The only items in the room that will remain the same are the couch and loveseat. I'd like to keep my curtains if possible, but I'm not opposed to switching them out. Other than those 2 things, everything else in the room will be updated. Thanks for any input you can give!!jck910

3 years agoYes, the last one. We will be removing the carpet and installing luxury vinyl plank. This is what we have in the kitchen/dining room and will probably install in the living room, too.

3 years agolooks like you have a stone fireplace and to me that is a big statement so I think I might go more neutral with a rug, a design but not with a bunch of different colors, i think the colors can be in pillows and other accents.
