how to hang a large picture the right way
Comments (11)A version of the Z-bar hanger that I have used is something called Hangman (you can Google "The Hangman Store,") made of metal. They make them for wood frames (you screw one part of the hanger system to the top edge of the frame) and for metal frames (the channel in the frame itself fits over the piece that adheres to the wall) -- I needed the version for the metal frame, and that puppy isn't going anywhere either! Plus, you get a little "margin of error" --you can nudge it slightly over to the left or right a few inches if you find you were "off" in the installation. I've ordered mine online but have also seen them at Lowe's (Lowe's has only a couple of the sizes, tho). You might need 2 of them. (I've also used plenty of Hercules Hooks in my house, and I've got to disagree with that suggestion for this piece--I would not be confident that they wouldn't just rip right through the drywall when the full weight of the art hits them. They also can't be used with studs, and I think you want a solution that lets you hit at least 2 of them.) What's covering the front of the picture? Glass? Acrylic? Or is it more of a very heavy painting with just the frame? Another option is to call some framing shops and talk to the owner about an in-home consult to figure out the best option (and maybe handle the install as well). If you're really nervous about doing it yourself, this might be worth whatever a professional framer would charge....See Morehow to hang curtains accross large span
Comments (19)Thanks for the replies, and Amysrq, what a lovely porch! My covered patio doesn't have walls like yours, though, so it wouldn't be quite the same. It is just open to the backyard, and where I need the sun to be blocked is all open. That west side spans from the house to a cedar post in the ground, with a solid shingled roof overhead, and flagstone patio underneath. I don't want to have 2 stacks of curtains in this area because a stack near the post would look odd, since there are no walls, and especially because it is an extremely windy location (Texas). I know that I am going to have to deal with wind regardless, but if I can pull all of the panels over to the side with the house wall, the stack will be out of the way, and I can secure them with a tie back or rope to the wall to contain them. Securing them to a cedar post just wouldn't be as secure or sheltered, since it is the corner of the structure that is most out in the open. The stack of curtains would be constantly flapping about in the wind. I would like the look of a copper pipe used as a rod, but I can't see how I could get around having to put a support bracket in the middle. S-hooks would be fine, or even clip hooks instead of using the grommets, but they still wouldn't pass by the middle bracket mount, would they? I will look into curtain tracks to see if that might work. I have to figure out some kind of solution since we built this cover to make our patio usable in the evening for eating dinner, and we have found that we still cannot use it from 4pm until the sun completely sets because the sun peeks under the roof all evening and aims itself directly at our patio table. Frustrating....See MoreHow to Hang Wreaths on Mirrors
Comments (17)Target and Home Depot always have a large selection of Command Hooks. I began using them three years ago when I started hanging vintage wooden stocking stretcher instead of regular stockings (mantel photo below). I bought clear, but the ribbon is tied in a loose knot and goes over the hook. Wouldn't show otherwise anyway. I also use on a wreath over mirror....See MoreHow hang a large canvas painting that's not stretched with bars?
Comments (29)From a link in the above article: New Jersey artist Clinton Hobart discovered counterfeits of his painting "Three Persimmons" were for sale on a website based in China. "In a gallery, this would sell for about $450 unframed to $500 framed," Hobart says. But the counterfeit online is $23.99. "No artist wants to find that someone is taking their stuff and is passing it off as their own," he says. ************************ Yep. I can absolutely imagine how infuriating this is to the real creators of the artwork being copied. I'm beginning to see how wrong this is, and to think that American businesses are the biggest buyers of the fakes? Incredible....See More- 4 years ago
