how to hang a large picture the right way
Comments (11)A version of the Z-bar hanger that I have used is something called Hangman (you can Google "The Hangman Store,") made of metal. They make them for wood frames (you screw one part of the hanger system to the top edge of the frame) and for metal frames (the channel in the frame itself fits over the piece that adheres to the wall) -- I needed the version for the metal frame, and that puppy isn't going anywhere either! Plus, you get a little "margin of error" --you can nudge it slightly over to the left or right a few inches if you find you were "off" in the installation. I've ordered mine online but have also seen them at Lowe's (Lowe's has only a couple of the sizes, tho). You might need 2 of them. (I've also used plenty of Hercules Hooks in my house, and I've got to disagree with that suggestion for this piece--I would not be confident that they wouldn't just rip right through the drywall when the full weight of the art hits them. They also can't be used with studs, and I think you want a solution that lets you hit at least 2 of them.) What's covering the front of the picture? Glass? Acrylic? Or is it more of a very heavy painting with just the frame? Another option is to call some framing shops and talk to the owner about an in-home consult to figure out the best option (and maybe handle the install as well). If you're really nervous about doing it yourself, this might be worth whatever a professional framer would charge....See MoreHow large is the artwork over your bed?
Comments (17)I used to have a large picture about the size of Allison's picture over my bed that I bought from an Estate sale and loved until I got new bedroom furniture and my headboard is so tall that now I have nothing over the headboard but I think about it all the time. I am thinking now of a few smaller pictures over my headboard so my 6 feet iron headboard can remain the star. I still have the beautiful flower picture that I have nowhere to hang....See MoreHow to decorate mantle that has an extremely large painting above it ?
Comments (24)I would definitely hang it higher, and it does look good framed. Either way, get rid of the floor vase. Is it possible to move that brown furniture on the left away from the fireplace? The fireplace needs breathing room, as much as possible, if you can't move it. Moving the picture up is the most important consideration. The mantel does not need any other decoration....See MoreWould this painting work here? It’s quite large (50x50)

I hope you just made an internet posting rookie mistake. rule of thumb is to be kind even when offering criticism. That aside the picture is gorgeous and it adds a chic contemporary look to a very traditional dining room. My suggestion is to move the buffet to under the window. this will occupy more real estate for the furniture in the room. Frame the art and lower it almost to chair rail height. If you have the option get a slightly smaller rug so the dining set does not get drowned out by the rug. My only criticism is that the dining room is so amazing and so large, a table that sits 8 would have filled in the space better. But, that I know is not always an option....See MoreDaniel Knoll
