art work in your kitchen?
Comments (34)Many thanks for the comps on our views and artwork. Much of the art was very reasonably priced, as this is an artist's mecca out here in New Mexico. Richpoor, with no views, you might consider framing a view of your own. By that I mean, find a poster or print of a view that would fit your area of the country and that you like, and frame it nicely to give your kitchen the view it's missing. In our DD's room, I bought one of those inexpensive window mirrors on sale at Hobby Lobby. One that looks like it has window panes. I took it apart, threw away the mirror, had glass put in it and had HL cut down a poster and insert a great "view" for her one wall. The eye really is fooled into seeing the view beyond the window. Here's a pic of DD's other view. I've since added heaftier molding to the top and bottom to even it out.: And a trompe l'oiel pic I had in her room when it was done in a beach theme. I'm not necessarily suggesting either for your kitchen, but there are great possibilities in the idea. Tromp l'oeil means "fool the eye" and this kind of art does just that, especially in a place with no good view. It makes the room feel bigger, too. Just some food for thought. Comments (28)My husband wanted to put up this ugly reproduction of a horse race painting that he found at a garage sale, I told him "give me a week, I'll find something better online!" I wanted a modern look, some realisitc photography, but I didn't want black and white because we have so many b&w prints in the house already. I finally bought a color print of a park scene (some park in NYC, I'm not sure which) at a web site called Brooklyn Prints. Every mantle is different, of course; I had just enough space to put up a 16x20 print in a wood frame. Our fireplace is for decoration only, so we didn't have to worry about heat damage to the frame or the print, but it is something to think about too. Here is a link that might be useful: Brooklyn Prints...See MoreLooking for inspiration: art over the bed
Comments (38)Your room is charming! This may be way out there, but you might look at prints by the Swedish artist/illustrator Carl Larsson. They're sunny and delightful, and how better to get a Swedish farmhouse look than with illustrations of an actual Swedish farmhouse: You can find his prints lots of places, but here's one source: http://fineartamerica.com/shop/prints/carl+larsson I've also become obsessed with old book prints available from etsy. You can find all kind of prints from vintage books and then hang them either individually or in a series. I love Kay Nielsen illustrations: This shop has dozens by this artist -- https://www.etsy.com/listing/250121368/kay-nielsen-art-deco-nouveau-print?ref=shop_home_active_6 Basically you can just browse around stores that sell old prints and find all kinds of treasures. I love the old prints because they're so individual, and they're often quite reasonably priced, compared to original art. Good luck with your room!...See MoreArt or no Art over stone fireplace?
Comments (19)Thanks everyone. I agree on the drapes, they came with the house - don’t love them. But the in addition to the two windows on each side of the fire place there there is a very large window on the walls to right and the left. So this will be quite an expense that I was trying to avoid. But definitely an option and would do in a similar way as @BeverlyFLADeziner suggests. I also agree with a chunkier mantel, however the mantel replacement will require additional stone work, so unless I can modify what I have, vs. replace it - that is not an option. I will definitely keep my eyes open for Art, you have sent some great suggestions that I like a lot. I don’t think I will go with a mirror, as I had one up for awhile and hated the reflection.. as some has commented could be an issue....See MorePines Everywhere
