Ceiling Fixture for 8' ceiling, off centre from dining table

Moved into a rental apartment where the ceiling fixture, which we're replacing, is not centered over our dining table. Nothing new there...

not wishing to do any sort of swag pendant treatment,

I'm looking for a solution that does double duty - something that lights up the dining area, but also casts light over into the living room area.

Because there are no floor outlets in there, I can't use floor lamps or table lamps without cords running across the only traffic places to get in and out of the space.

Was thinking of a pendant or semi pendant fixture that spreads across the ceiling that has multi-directional lighting, something more attractive than wavy track light.

The space is still to be painted and decorated, but there's plenty of room in both areas for uplights.

Main dilema is what to use in that fixture, as it can't hang very low and yet needs to spread light.

I'm attaching photos of the space and some ideas. I've heard a few times lately that it's not necessary to have the fixture directly over the dining table, so I hope some of the ideas I have would work.

Am I on the right track?

I like the brass one and the other I would hate just because of the horrible light you get from Edison bulbs

good point. Not a big fan of edison bulbs , and not very familiar with the light they cast.

The brass one shows up often on pinterest, but I can't find anything like it in retail.

The attached photos show a fixture that has adjustable arms for different directions. If we could have an electrician mount it without the extending poles from the ceiling, we'd have the clearance we need. It would be more like semi flush height

The bulb covers (?) are smoky glass and can hold 60 Type A - so, dimmable, regular bulbs, led bulbs..whatever works, I'm guessing.

Shame that you can't tell the light you'll get without have it hard wired first.

Hello! This is definitely fine, especially if there is a coffee table under it. I try not to have my lighting hang below 80" from the from the floor, that is usually my go to measurement. It is gorgeous, nice find! For similar lighting check out Circa or Visual Comfort.

It appears that your chandelier is too high. The bottom of the fixture should be about 30” from the table top. Since lowering it while it is that off center would create other problems, I''d be happier with swagging the light to the center of the table and lowering it.

Not sure how much you want to spend on the project but here is something to consider. Have a carpenter gut the bookshelves and build in a dresser on each side. It might feel like you are removing some of the character of the room, but you still have the unusual ceiling and the adorable window seat. Make the fronts for the drawers decorative with moldings and interesting pulls. With two dressers you would achieve more clothing storage, and if you had the top a bit lower than the molding there would be room for deco items. Then you could put your bed on the centered window with drapes on either side the width of the bed. You would also have room for two nightstands and access to each side. Nightstands with shelves would accommodate your books. I would also get a lower headboard. If you get a different bed the existing light fixture might work. I also like the idea of painting your ceiling the same color as the walls. If you think that might be too dark, paint it half strength. Alternatively, I would do what Lynartist suggested. Lamps, mirror, etc can come after furniture placement is decided. Good luck, it's a lovely room!

A track light would work well there because the junction box doesn't have to be in the center of the track. So, you could actually center the track over your table. There are some that are similar to one of the fixtures you featured.

I like the brass one too

there are some "branch" type chandeliers of different styles..my favorite ones are crazily expensive, but generally speaking-yes I think you're on the right track

Move the table..................... please? To under any light you install. Take out all the other stuff, move the table beneath, and take another picture. Several..........
