What kind of sheets are good
Comments (42)Just purchased Pottery Barn pearl "organic" sheet set. IT IS HORRIBLE. When it first arrived, it was love at first sight... beautiful quality so I thought. After washing, I was stunned. These sheets are my worst nightmare. No one, especially millenials, generally spend two-three hours ironing their sheets. These require MORE care. I washed them in warm water, and both air dried and machine dried (slightly damp). THEY ARE A MESS of hard, embedded wrinkles that even a committed ironing person as myself cannot remove. I ironed one pillowcase for 40 min, with top rated spray starch and COULD NOT REMOVE MAJORITY OF WRINKLES. I don't know whether to toss these in the trash or cut them up for rags, but it was a total waste of my hard earned money. Pottery Barn, known for its quality, should be ashamed....See MorePanic! Comments (34)Right now below my coverlet I have a down blanket for warmth. In summer I just use the sheet and coverlet; DH just the sheet. What I also like about it is that DH and I have different needs in terms of warmth so having layers allows for more flexiblity than using a comforter which is often too hot for my DH. I also wash mine very frequently--about 1-2 times per month, along with my sheets. There was a recent thread on matelasse bedspreads which might be helpful to read. Some brands had quite a bit of shrinkage which may be a concern for you. Some coverlets have a scalloped edge, some a straight edge. There are also many different designs on the matelasse coverlet. Mine is a floral design, though my shams have a paisley design. Your mattress/boxpring selection will also be a concern in your final choice as you need to check the measurements to make sure it comes down low enough on the sides. Many mattresses are quite thick and so some prefer a low profile boxspring (5" vs. 9") which is standard. This choice will affect how far your bedding comes down on the sides....See MoreRough Linen post continued
Comments (54)I am definitely going to order the bath mat, too. I think I will enjoy the look of it as much as the feel. I have a terry one now, but this one would be nice. I would like to get a couple king size pillow slips just because I like having the extra fabric to completely cover the ends of the pillows. Will probably get the apron instead of the pinafore. I need to spread out my purchases, though. Oh, and I definitely need the bed skirt for the downstairs guest room! Jeepers, I could go on and on. Oh and I washed the sheet, summer cover, and pillow slips today. I put the sheet on the bed to dry and stretched and smoothed it. No need for ironing! It looks wonderfully smooth. I did iron the pillow slips. Looks so nice! The summer cover is rinsing now....See MoreCrisp White Sheets
Comments (74)I will tell you how I got my vast collection of sheets and pillowcases. LOL. First I only like high quality 100-% cotton percale, and they need to be white, but to buy these new I'd need to sell my home so I went thrifting and to flea markets, what I found would make most people sick....100% cotton percale, white...ok the white was debatable...more In ranges of the nastiest white you can imagine, ranging from tan to the ugliest dirty brown and they all reeked to the high heavens...of course I did what all lovers of great vintage sheets from the 50's would do...I paid my 25 cents a sheet and went home with my treasure. I of course had to consider bed bugs so i bagged these up and put them behind hubs shed under a tarp. I dug out my huge and I mean huge old soup pot not used for cooking lol...I did one sheet at a time..put the sheet in soup pot, filled with hot tap water, put on stove top and turned on high...I added about 1/8 th cup of Tide with Bleach POWDER, brought to a boil and turned off stirring occasionally with a large wooden spoon....let cool to room temp..it stinks and the wa ter is brown...dump outside, refill and do same again....water lighter brown... d o a third time...water pretty clear..next step is to put it in the washer and spin out..start washer on a long sanitize cycle almost 160F with a hefty dose of Tide with Bleach powder and some ammonia....I did this more times than you can imagine, I had the time not the money...I was rewarded with the most beautiful, pure white sheets, that have no odors other than clean. I doubt even the most exexpensive sheets could handle such aggressivness today. LOL This is not for everyone for sure, but this was a way for me to have the highest quality sheets, better than anything on todays market for nothing more than my time. Haha....See Moretartanmeup
