WS area design set up question
Comments (2)Hi Pippi21, Thanks for the reply. Yes, I see now I was a bit vague concerning the cinder blocks. I'm thinking useing them to make a raised bed , or series of raised beds inside the open to the air ,garage area. The old foundation is about 1 1/2 feet high, so it would be easy enough to start at that height right now, and add height as I find more soil. With the soil base for moisture and insulation, then I would have the blocks go up one extra layer to hopefully protect everything from blowing down the street. In the past I've winter sown, but not like the folks on the forum do it. I've always just used flats of soil, snugged up to one and other on the ground, then a piece of Remay over the top. But I've not tried the variety of plants your folks do, so that's why I've checked here over the years.. just to see what your all up to. So it seems I'm a gal without a proper forum, since the parts I'm worried about, how will the cement floor affect temp, moisture, should I insulate the bottom, the sides ..do I moisture proof the sides since a wet center and bone dry edges would loose me a year.I don't understand how the clear plastic doesn't cause heat problems at the wrong time..and how do I prevent that ? Opening little door on each one for a couple hours in the middle of the day, so many days from the start to the end seems undoable, without one costly mistake that ruins everything. All the same concerns apply equally to growing out plants and tossing in some veggies in empty spaces during their season. This is the reason I was looking for the photo I saw so long ago, thinking I could find his or her follow up , as to how things worked out. NEW QUESTION____________ What forum did the original members here post in before this forum had a home base? That may be where I can find the photos I remember....See MoreDoes anyone buy formica topped dinettes anymore?
Comments (5)Clt3, Apparently Cochrane has come out with a new line of formica-type topped tables; was told there were many calls for it. However, there was so little on the floor that I just can't order without seeing. I appreciate your response; obviously it has held up well for your MIL. I'm still thinking about it. smile, I have looked at Bermex & Canadel & was told about the safety period of 24 hours for spills etc. Sounds pretty reasonable to me. Are you planning to purchase a stained or mixed color finish? Just curious. Also, great idea to order a "test chair". As I told Clt3, I was also impressed with the Cochrane brand, but since there was not much on the floor, I hesitate ordering w/o seeing. I have been able to see a good bit of the Bermex & Canadel & it looks great. Thanks for your input....See MoreThe bucks stopped here. Can you help with my dinette?
Comments (45)After selling your set on CL check out the one in your area for MCM pieces selling for a song. This MCM baby is listed in my area for $200. You have to look at pieces with a good eye for how they can work in a new space. Imagine this with really cool chairs in your space. Most people photograph their items in the garage or basement, or with their current funishings which do not do a piece justice. I think they have the bases reversed though and they should be facing curved outward: With placemats you won't be looking at your dinner guest's feet and legs....See MoreWhat kind of dinette/dining table for British Colonial?
Comments (30)Karyn, I'm not surprised that you're having a difficult time. My home is being decorated in British colonial, also. Although CL has great furniture buys, it can be difficult to find the right style, the right price, and the right size. I looked for months trying to find the right counter stools here in Houston and finally gave up. Frontgate's Raffles counter stools met all my criteria and were a great price for the style. Many of the nice tables pictured so far on your thread are meant for a formal diningroom. For example, it seems to me your CL find would need a glass top to protect that fine wood. This defeats the idea of practicality for daily use. A breakfast table takes a lot of abuse, even with adults only in the household. Many folks probably went with a glass top so the table could be more formal yet the glass could take the wear of daily living. Frontgate has the Milano (indoor) table in different sizes and shapes. It has an iron base and a recycled hammered copper top. Frontgate has paired Clermont chairs with it which could work for British colonial. To me, their prices seem reasonable for the quality. This table may not work for you. If interested, see ironaccents.com and humbleabode.com as both also feature that table. Ironworks shows other types of tops for that table base and humbleabode discusses the type of wax that should be used to protect the top. Regardless, take your time, and perhaps save your money as others have urged. This post was edited by Texasgal47 on Thu, Aug 29, 13 at 16:13...See Moreyvonnecmartin
