Silvia - When does your pink cane begonia bloom?

I put mine into a larger pot last spring in a shady spot, have been watering and fertilizing regularly with 1/2 strength 15-30-15, because I know begonias don't like strong fertilizer. It's almost 6 feet tall now, but it hasn't bloomed at all, and shows now signs of blooming. I'm about to give up on it, honestly.

D, I really did not put any attention on the flowering cycles of my begonias, but I know that they bloom very often during the year. I have a few varieties, this time the pink cane begonia does not have any blooms maybe because I cut it before the hurricane to be able to move easily indoors.

I don't fertilize my potted plants very often either, they are all by the porch on the other hand all my indoor violets are blooming today.

Depends on what pot you are talking about. The tray and the small pot of Little Miss Mummey used Miracle Gro Potting Mix (not the moisture control mix which stays too wet). The other small cup was just perlite (very sterile and excellent drainage but no food either). Spacing is good for air flow and keeping sick plants from healthy ones but sometimes... You can use the same principle for starting other plants as well. Here is an inverted cake lid from the grocery store filled with perlite and cut stems of brugmansias. Most of these were bare stems back in November when I cut the mother plant close to the ground. They certainly require water despite no drainage.

Hi Wanda. I have a cane begonia named ÂIrene NussÂ. It's an angel wing type. It grows large clusters of coral pink flowers. Mine is potted and doesn't grow canes as tall as yours. Does your begonia look similar?

Rosie, You and I don't have to worry about that since we do have each other's email and can go private when we want to. I guess when GW came under the Houzz umbrella, some things changed. It didn't used to be difficult in the good old days. HAHA! At least we can post up to 10 photos on each post which is a good thing. In the past only one photo and that was from the thread starter. The only other way was to put in a link using HTML to where you stored any pictures on another web site which was okay until the pictures were scrubbed from the other web site(s). We may see our first frost Monday so I may have to cover some of my plants until I can get them in. We will probably experience our "Indian Summer" after Monday though which will give me an extra two weeks to bring everything indoors.

Thanks, Silvia. Your AVs are gorgeous! I've tried to grow AVs here, but somehow, they always die. Sad, because my front window is a perfect place for them.

I moved my begonia out to where it could get a bit more sun, and broke off a piece, but I'll just root it like I have all the pieces that broke off. I think I have four small pots of it now. LOL

At this time I have almost all the colors of AVs and they are flowering I do use fertilizer on them and only water them when almost dry.

When I got the pink cane begonia from Mark, never looked so good, he was the master of ornamentals, all the plants he shared with me were gorgeous and I still keep them alive. I even have a huge plant that was his father, some sort of succulent....

Beautiful! Hopefully, moving mine into more sun will help it decide to bloom.
