Design Dilemma Basements Home Decorating

Above bar wall decor

What would you put above this wall mounted bar top? I was thinking mirrors to reflect light and “open” up the wall. I don’t want shelves or drinking related things because it’s a shared play space with our kids. Would colorful art be better? (I like airy, classic, coastal vibes and colors; without being beachy) these are the stools that will go under the bar top- they are white and navy.

I think I would remove it and put a small game table with chairs so the everyone could sit there at one time and enjoy the time together.

What a lovely space. I think some wall brackets with small chains and clear votive would look nice. You could place small plants in them or even candles. It would lessen the dilemma center the china cabinet on the wall or center the piano. Perhaps the piano could be placed on an angle in another corner or part of the room. Good luck.

If the headboard isn't overpowering and a statement in itself, I'd go ahead and put lightweight art above... even though I don't live in earthquake country, I'd be nervous about anything heavy up there. Agree with arcy, I wouldn't want to have anything so low as to be hitting my head on anything over the bed when sitting up in it. So a photo of the bed would be great.

IMO the first thing you need is aheadboard then the space left over is for your pictures. Maybe 3 framed hung at the same level as the octogon window above the headboard.

It looks amazing already, it really does!!! In front of the radiator you can do a bench. But other than that leave it empty. Add some art that speaks to you. What do you like? Big family photo? A painting? Maybe just a mural art with molding around it to frame it out... so many options. I’d also add some new pillows with more color. Black, Blue, brown leather....

What is that thin shelf for anyway? No one wants to sit facing the wall in a corner IMO. A small countertop table might be better.

I don't think your French Bisto chair complements your other selections. Do you? Maybe a stool with a finish that matches your cabinets and shelf.

The stools don't really compliment the other design choices. You mentioned liking coastal styles, but that bar area reads more rustic and industrial. I agree that no one will want to sit and face a wall, but if there's a pool table nearby it might be a nice spot to place drinks.

What will the area mainly be used as? I see kids toys but the area feels more adult.
