Download an old map or print from a place that has meaning to you . (I used place where DH and I met.) Then print it out as an engineer print at Staples for a few dollars. Mount on particle board. You can also cut in pieces and decoupage a la RH. Hang. Art is always good, but I think the mirror posted above is nice. That finish would pick up on the other brass/gold finishes present, and properly hung, would reflect the large art and the interesting light fixture. The layout could be improved by switching the bookcase to the opposite wall to be more visible, move the sofa over to center, and add a tall plant or floor lamp to the left. IMO

From this image, the sectional looks squashed in the corner, so you would give better balance to the room if you pulled it away from the window wall and put the floor lamp in the corner. Then you can center the sofa on the wall and add large scale art work. Often times it is best to "float" the furniture and get it away from the wall.

KW's suggestion of a mockup is a *very* good one! While eye at mid-art is a good general rule, exceptions can be made. For example - I have some art at eye-level while I'm sitting on the sofa, or on the toilet. Some art can be hung high to cover a large wall, etc. It's just a rule of thumb. For *most* of the art around *my* house, the art is eye-level to ME, at 5'3". My occasional tall guests might be looking at art slightly above the mid-point, but it's my house and I'm the one looking at the art the most. Hang the art at different heights and judge what *looks* best. Generally, over a sofa, you want the art to connect with the sofa - not so much with the ceiling above.
