trashcanman, I meant cat 6 obviously. I've had this argument further up on this thread (where I did say cat 6), but you just can't convince some people that technology improves/changes. "If you have neighbors close by, you are sharing that wireless space with them, and as they add more devices, your speed and reliability will trend downward". Just to reiterate, this is a dated way of thinking... there is very little to no interference with modern 5G routers. Anecdotal proof: I am sitting in my tiny temporary city apartment where there are 28 other wifi networks available, and I can still watch perfect 4K TV through my wifi and my internet is super fast. In 10-15 years, those of you running cat 6 will have to tell stories about the old days when the internet ran through wires and devices had these strange "ethernet ports" every time a kid asks about the strange useless outlets on your walls. artemis_ma, I did run audio wire for speakers.... even though Apple is convinced that wireless sound is ready for prime time, I don't think we are quite there yet. I think we will be soon, but I am not willing to wait a few years to listen to music (also speakers in the ceiling do need power some how). I am pretty happy with Spotify for what you are describing, but that is an entirely different conversation.

You probably want to instal PoE, NVR. Just WiFi does not have the capacity... Typically you choose between PoE or PoC (Coax). Bigger issue are the locations: people tend to put cameras like two story high ... and all they record will be top of the cars and heads. There have been cases/videos posted on the youtube with 32 cameras ... and not one of them recorded the faces because all were installed pretty high up. To me 4k cameras feel excessive again imho. No to usb or 3 prongs.... Go with PoE.

The Control4 techs installed our system so they would be responsible for the wiring issues. Still, I get what you’re saying...system issue vs installation issue...also probably specific to the vendor. Anyway, our system includes a doorbell connection; when someone rings it, the sound on the tv stops working (it used to go from tv to Pandora on tv). When we turn the patio fan on, the tv turns off for a minute before coming back on (it used to go off & stay off). I’m not sure if there’s a connection, but we had our patio pre-wired for a tv (but never installed one after all the issues). The batteries on the remote they provided have to be changed more frequently than normal & the brightness (although at max) is still quite dim. I thought that was normal until I saw an instructional video on YouTube that showed what it should look like.

It was suggested that my data lines and speaker wires should all run to one central location (basement). I was told to install 4 CAT6, and a RG6 cable (coax) behind all my TVs. I can then use a HDMI bunion behind each tv to convert CAT6 to HDMI. additionally, it was suggested that I place cat6 ports in a closet closest to each tv. 2 cat6 can be used for 4K video distribution. 1 cat6 is used for IRR. The last cat6 is used for direct internet connection. the coax can be used for wifi extension. unfortunately, my electrician told me she does not want to run the cat6 and rg6 cabes in a conduit for each tv. I feel the conduit is important so i can easily switch from cat6 to cat7 without ripping out any drywall in the future. Is this normal? Should I insist that I get conduits? If she still refuses, is there an alternative option? If not, I am heavily considering using Wi-fi everywhere and only getting cat6 ports for direct internet connection, and for wifi extenders if needed. Any thoughts?
