Yes, Sombreuil, that’s what I found. It appears to be a bit heftier than today’s ranch. The door and window trim is in very good condition, and I hate taking more trim off than necessary for fear of damaging the plaster. My concern is if the plain 1x4 or 1x6 trim will coordinate or look odd with the clamshell trim.

Can you post a picture of what you have? It would be easier to make a suggestion.

Can you locate a builder's millwork warehouse/factory nearby? They should have everything you need vs a big box store.

I've found that lumber stores are still fairly expensive on custom baseboard. I've used the stacked method before and it looks nice. Another way to go is to buy 1x and rout the top in the shape you prefer.

I have a carpenter, but I have to do the shopping. Yesterday, we discussed grades of pine and it makes more sense. Will the old casing and 4x1” baseboard work?
