Pps7- way more comfortable. We lost our guest bedroom when we decided to have my mom come and live with us. The air bed always feels squishy by morning and does not feel as supportive as a platform bed which is what American leather is.. No springs etc. you can even upgrade the mattress to tempurpedic. Tinan - we got ours from room and board. You can buy the comfort sleeper system from American Leather directly or from any of the retailers who have licensed the system - crate and barrel, room and board etc. They just introduced a modular system a couple of months ago.

I vote for the aerobed. We've had one for about 5 years now. We host a family for a week every April. (Long story, they drive down for a church event.) At first they always brought their own camping mattress. However, the man was having back problems so we convinced them to try our pillow-top aerobed. Now, we just have it ready and waiting for their visits. DH and I (and at least one child) slept on it for a few weeks while we were moving. I liked it much better than our sleeper sofa. (BTW, sleeper sofas weigh approx. 300 lbs. I'll never have another one!) Our aerobed is the floor version, but if I had to buy a new one for guests, I'd buy the one on legs. If I had to buy a new one for my children's slumber parties, I'd buy another floor version. Be sure and read a few reviews to make sure you are getting the best model for your dollar. DH read a few reviews first and quickly discovered that not all aerobeds have the same quality.

I have a Crate and Barrel Bayside sleeper sofa made by Lee industries. It's at least 10-15 years old and has seen very light use as we were overseas and had it in storage for at least 1/2 that time. It's an incredibly comfortable sofa and in near new condition with wonderfully supportive cushions. The sleeper sofa part however is horrific and pretty much alway has been. If there's 2 people sleeping, you alway roll to the center and even though the sleeper wasn't used often, the original mattress is puny and uncomfortable. I would be ashamed to have guests sleep on it and we're getting too old to be sleeping in a sling. We now live in a smaller place and having a comfortable sleeper sofa in our office/guest room has become a necessity. My parents splurged on an American Leather sleeper which we found to be fabulous, but very pricey. I'm wondering if it would be less expensive to try to "upgrade" my sofa instead with a new mattress and perhaps a sturdier mechanism/frame. Options for a new mattress include: CBs replacement integrated coil mattress with air topper (although I've read about some issues with "air failures" with these mattresses), foam mattress options from places like PlushBeds.com, replacement-mattress.com and Legget and Platt (the makers of some sofa bed mechanisms). I see that I can also buy complete sofa bed mechanisms and wonder if a sturdier, more supportive frame exists that would turn this pigs ear into a silk purse or if I should bail on this couch and invest in the American Leather. We're pretty handy and could probably pull off replacing the mechanism, but I'd be looking for a home run as far as better support. Has anyone tried any of these upgraded mattress options or has experience with sleeper mechanism quality and support? If I did both, it would be under $1000 compared to the expense of a new America Leather sofa. Plus my sofa is just so darned comfortable! Any advice?

Springmaid also made 100% cotton percale USA made. Yes they needed ironed. I do not like cotton/poly blends. They may not need ironed but they don't feel the same as the old USA made cotton sheets. Its my experience that the cotton poly blend sheets in todays market can be found on the cheap everywhere and frankly I wouldn't want them for any price. They feel like the synthetic they are made of, they hold soil and odors, and they pill. Was yesteryears like this? I've always used all cotton, but I iron mine and have no problem ironing. I would be the last to complain about cotton wrinkling LOL. Of course it wrinkles. This is why grandma and mom took them off the line and ironed them.
