Help with foyer accents and finishes please (pics)
Comments (25)Brutuses, that Collin table is great, isn't it? Its only new piece of furniture Ive ever bought! When we got married 8 years ago, we had between the two of us boxes of textbooks, one twin bed, and a dresser. Im too frugal to buy much new, so its taken awhile to actually furnish a house ;-) Were out of grad school days now, but since I got the table on clearance with a gift card, I guess we dont change our stripes too much. Great ideas mjlb. The more I looked at the room photos, the more I liked those little watercolors in there somewhere. The wall to the left of the entry door would be perfect. Would black frames and aqua mats like the sepia prints suit these too? I actually made a grasscloth picture mat for the sepia prints first, before I realized there was no contrast there and it needed more color. I could certainly do a grasscloth frame for the mirror. Would the same vertical placement to the right of the door work better then you think? Somehow on the post above I got two of the same picture; I guess my copy and paste didnt work the second time. Here is another angle of the accent wall. I've since moved the candlesticks over by the closet door. I do like the molding shelves on the grasscloth. Since I have three, how should I arrange them on the wall? Do I need something in that left corner by the table or leave it empty? And what do people recommend for a lamp base, assuming I do the fabric shown above for the shade?...See MoreShow me your Foyer Bench!
Comments (9)Wow, What lovely foyers you have! Mimi, first of all, I fell in love with your railing and the steps-Why? Because they are wrought iron and wood like mine :). I like the look. The size of your bench looks about right to me. I think I might do better with no arms. BTW, love your floor. Threed, you are so right. My goodness, Target had things I didn't know they carried including benches. They had a couple that I liked, but no free shipping. This lets me know that I need to keep Target in my eye sight. Oakle, love your floor also. It musst be nice to have a carpenter around that does good work. That's a nice bench. Looks to be in an ideal place from where I sit. Sueb, at least it'a your church pew :). Hmm, wonder if the pastor would understand if I told him I am having church at home, lol. Good idea and cheap. Lynn, love your bench and the pillow, too. Looks very sturdy. Glad to see that you guys don't have massive benches. These are the sizes I think my foyer could handle. Mythree, what a lovely bench-great detail and a beautiful color. I love how you guys put things together and it just looks good. Ooh Claire--beautiful. Thank you. I really like one and three. Four is a little dramatic for me and I am the drama queen(giggle). Each one gives me ideas though. Ok, I ordered a bench today from JCP. It has the look of wrought iron, not sure if it said it was. I think the size is right. It was on sale, I got an additional $10 off plus free shipping. I won't tell you which one because I hope it will be a part of the Big Reveal! I am always so impressed with how willing people are to share on this board. I spend too much time at GW. Thanks to all of who shared. Comments (5)It appears your foyer is just not large enough to put any piece of furniture there without infringing on the DR space. You might have a wall mounted shelf on the wall before the kitchen entry and possibly place a stool underneath it for seating. Possibly, not knowing how large your dining table is, you could orient it perpendicular to the windows, which could give you more wall space for your entry. As for the light, just make sure it is over your table. Don't worry about whether it is centered with the front windows....See Moreshould foyer paintings have a bench below them?
Comments (10)Hi Shirlpp, Hope you are well! One painting above one side table is what’s in this part of the foyer now! This ended up to be so much more practical than a bench. I love minimalism, but not to this extent! What can I put next to this to make it more complete? In my last house, I had a smaller painting over this piece with a lamp on the side. If I did that now, I’d cover the painting. Should I put a tall floor plant to one side and floor lamp on the other side? I’d plan to add 5x7 photos on top of side table. Anything else? Thank you!...See MoreChristina Reidel
