Help! Bathroom Floorplan Layout Ideas
Comments (36)Overwhelmed by all the responses here -- thank you SO much everyone! This community is incredible. Trying to get back to every single message: Mark Bischak, Architect - A mockup is a brilliant idea. I'll put down some painters tape and get a better feel for the space. I really think AR/VR would be so powerful for floorplan visualization. I did think about accessing via closet, nice to have that separation from the bedroom for when only one of us is getting ready. But the boss nixed that one. Gas chamber I am still 50/50 on. Karenseb - I just measured, and a 36" width shower is plenty large. I like the idea of a two-person shower, but just big enough to where we are comfortable but don't sacrifice the ability to get nice steam build-up. Your second message with the floorplan is very interesting. Two closets and a more usefully dimensioned bathroom would be fantastic. I will run this by my architect. Thank you!!! Susan Davis - Lots of fun to be had!! Good point about the door that pushes in, I think that is ideal as well. North Texan - Thanks for the description, I will try to re-create based on your vision and post an update. Love, love the skylight. Of course moisture and energy efficiency loss, but natural light is a must. Virgil Carter Fine Art - That is a huge concern. What is a comfortable amount of aisle space for two to be in the bathroom? I think mocking up with tape will be very helpful here. Mrs Pete - I am searching for the floorplan that makes a 'WOW!' when you walk in. Yes, I agree, single hinge opening towards the wall would be ideal. We want to do shelves and a pull-out hamper in the 18"-24" ceiling height cabinet. Without the toilet room and making any major modifications to the master suite, this is my favorite floorplan as well. Karenseb's design is very interesting to me as well. shead - Thanks for the input on the shower. I agree; it's too large and will be both a pain to clean and will not be as steamy as we'd like. Not to mention, if it spans the entire wall, we only have one side of glass. A second side of glass will make it feel more open....See MoreBathroom Floor Plan Help!
Comments (26)Just a suggestion for re-arranging so you have a full wall in the dining that is not broken up by the entry into a bedroom. You can have the entry from the mudroom or from across the peninsula. I'd also consider moving the door for the master down more towards the corner for more privacy from the living room. The other thing I would consider for your kitchen is an island to create a walkway from the mudroom into the house so people doesn't spread into the kitchen and then remove the peninsula part. You'll get more use out of your cabinets this way too and it will feel less tight against the dining room....See MoreMaster bathroom floorplan help needed.
Comments (19)I think you have bigger problems with this house than just the bathroom. The best houses orient the public rooms towards the south for the best passive solar heating and cooling The best houses are L, U, T, H, or I shaped. The best houses are only one to two rooms deep. And covered lanai, porches, garages, etc count as rooms in this case. The best houses make sure kitchens have natural light, meaning windows so one doesn't have to have lighting 24/7 to use the kitchen. (And no, dining areas with windows 10' or more from the kitchen will not allow for natural light.) The best houses make sure all public rooms and bedrooms have windows on at least two walls. The best houses do not if possible put mechanical rooms, pantries or closets on outside walls The best houses keep public and private spaces separate. The best houses do not have you walk through the work zone of the kitchen to bring laundry to the laundry room. The best houses do not have the mudroom go through any of the work zones of the kitchen. The best houses do not use the kitchen as a hallway to any other rooms. The best houses do not put toilets or toilet rooms up against bedroom walls or dining areas. The best houses do not have walk in closets too small to stand inside. The best houses have an organizing “spine” so it’s easy to determine how to get from room to room in the house and what makes sense. So how many of these best practices does your house have?...See MoreWasher/Dryer in Closet or in the Bathroom? FLOORPLANS
Comments (6)Based on the size of our stacked machines the area for the W/D looks big enough, but be sure you have enough height as well. Also think about how you will be able to access the dryer vent for cleaning. Lint build up in dryer vents has been known to cause house fires. Also, how are you going to be able to access the shut-off valves? Do you have enough room to move the machines in and out? Fitted closets for machines look great in pictures, but I am skeptical about the practicality. I have a lot of room for mine. Keep in mind it takes two people with some strength to get the dryer off the washer if you need to service the washer, and they don't build appliances the way they used to. I think the second option is a better layout for the bathroom, but I too am concerned about the amount of room you woud have at the top of the stairs. It does look like it might be dangerous....See MoreJAN MOYER
