Walnut Island next to what kind of kitchen table?
Comments (7)You may already be aware, but if not. You can do a houzz search and find a photo of the island type you have, then select that photo and to the right of the next window select "other photos in ..." and there may be a photo of an eat in kitchen table. Here is an example [https://www.houzz.com/photos/sullivans-island-family-home-renovation-beach-style-kitchen-charleston-phvw-vp~6696321[(https://www.houzz.com/photos/sullivans-island-family-home-renovation-beach-style-kitchen-charleston-phvw-vp~6696321)...See MoreHow to finish white oak floors with walnut cabinets
Comments (30)There is only one genuine Black Walnut. Its grown here in the United States. Lots of companies will import lesser quality species from other countries and generically call it "walnut" Sam Gentry cabinets are genuine Black Walnut....See MoreNew red oak versus existing
Comments (0)Hello! We moved to our home last fall where we were told (and could tell) the hardwood floors were in good shape and must have been recently refinished. They are a nice light blonde which contrasts well against the walnut trim/doors. We had 3 contractors come in to give us bids to demo the ceramic tile in the foyer and install hardwood to match said floors. Upon googling I realize this is easier than it sounds but every guy made it sound like a piece of cake-existing is red oak with a water based finish. Fast forward to today, I now have an extremely red/orange foyer with my blonde kitchen/great room. The guys did a natural stain and an oil based poly because they said that's better suited in this traffic area. When discussing the huge variation in colors, I was told it's just the old versus new flooring and no one would ever be able to match. Had I been told that we may have considered refinishing the existing but here we are--the guys also said it will eventually yellow to blend in better with the existing but as of now I feel like we threw our money out the window. Anything we can do? Are they correct in saying red oak is going to vary no matter what-if so I don't even want to touch the existing because that's the color I want! Do I find someone qualified to try to bleach the new floor? This is such a disappointment so just looking for some input-thanks for reading my rambling!...See MoreHelp! Comments (31)Update: The pyrolave is a match. We will meet with the carpenter in 2 weeks. We are planning to repaint the cabinets. They are 20 years old now so as much as it pains me to paint over something that is working I think it will make everything more cohesive and it's probably "time" to paint the cabinets. We are considering BM Edgecomb Gray which seems to work with the countertops. The actual limited painted kitchen walls are currently BM Navajo White. I think that will still work. I may have to repaint trim and the ceiling. From what I have found on line it sounds like BM Dove White is a good choice. It's all northern exposure. I am leaning toward a stained island but using pyrolave for all the countertops. I am also considering a painted island. I think the stain may warm up all that stone. Question now: We cannot match exactly the marble tile and we are putting in one little section of open shelves in place of the hutch (over the new counter). Should we just have a painted wall behind the shelves or try to get some sort of matching tile to the kitchen tile across the room? Or should we use the countertop pyrolave as a small back splash? Do we paint the coffered ceiling beams to match the cabinets?...See Moreartistsharonva
