4 years agoHere are some of my kitchen photos. The hutch area on the right will have a tv on the wall. I’m thinking of maybe shiplapping that area before the TV goes up.

Comments (12)Hi Jeri, I am in the tail end of a mini remodel of my kitchen. Nothing fancy really, just counters, kept the cabs but rearranged a tiny bit, new appliances and details. Still working on the details. Lighting, molding... Looking at a modernaire hood but worried about the expense. I try to list each photo source next to the photo I post. Comments (7)Thanks mindimoo! I've always loved alkuo5's granite and splash combo (ok, the entire kitchen actually!) and your thassos marble bricks are really nice! Our border tile listello for our downstairs bath will have random strips of thassos marble. I'm thinking about incorporating more of it in our upstairs baths when we reno those next year because it's just so darned pretty! Comments (30)Bean - I think I looked at a zillion Sonoma samples! I decided against bc the small tiles were too much $, but the standard size were in budget. Perhaps I should revisit. My tile shop gives the Sonoma samples out in a 2x4 tile and it was sooo small to get a good idea, but I love the look in your photo. If you have one that's slightly closer up feel free to post if it isn't too much trouble. Some of the crackles I decided against bc the crackle seemed "too much". Comments (38)Kathy, I am sure the picture will help get some additional suggestions. You have a very nice space but it is darker (like mine!) and I think a few other items to lighten it up would help here. It looks like your cabinets are hickory. In addition to a backsplash, may I suggest some new rugs that have no pattern or motifs in them? You have a lot of grain (and I think it is beautiful) but you need something solid in spots to break it up. I think your your instinct to stay away from any orange or red color is good. Some solid dish towels are a little but nice inexpensive touch too. Lastly, is it possible to add a light over the kitchen sink to give you more light, particularly at night? You already have under-cabinet lighting and that is good here. I am not so good at picking colors or tile materials myself. I just made a big mistake in a bath myself. 4 years agolast modified: 4 years agoThere are lots of ways of bringing color into a room and you don’t have to do it with tile. Maybe a white mini star and cross would be the right choice for you, then you can bring color in with accessories.
Another option would be a marble backsplash. You don’t have a faux marble counter, your counter appears to be white, so a gorgeous Calacatta gold or (if you want to highlight the greys) Carrara marble would be perfect. Think large format subway tile
