Comments (16)"----There is a big difference between dry roasting something and "boiling".----" Agree. Absolutely. You can never fry bacon in boiling water. Roasting, baking, boiling, steaming, frying --- all give you very different end results on the exterior of food. But once the heat goes inside food, the food is not smart enough to know where the heat comes from and what generated the heat. Inside the meat, at 212 F, meat is cooked exactly the same way, no matter how you cook it. dcarch...See MoreHappy Thanksgiving from Canada
Comments (5)Thank You ladies for your wishes! I have so much to be thankful for. Both of our sons will be home! I haven't seen our oldest son for 6 months. I'm so excited. Our youngest, is just a couple hours away at Purdue but, it will be so great to have them both under our roof for a few days. After the holiday, our oldest will be heading to Miami (he has been in NJ since he graduated from Purdue in May) with his job, so it's kinda bittersweet, plus it's my first Thanksgiving without my Mother. Comments (23)Sunday for us, Monday is then a day of leisure and leftovers. It was just the two of us this year so I cooked a turkey breast for the first time ever. We were lucky we had any kind of Thanksgiving dinner. I've had the flu, then a nasty head cold which of course turned into bronchitis. I haven't eaten anything for a week, but since the turkey was defrosted it had to be cooked. Hubby and I put together the meal, and even made some squash soup. I had a small plate. Today I feel better, am still coughing but it will be strenuous coughing again throughout the night....See MoreHappy Thanksgiving, Canada!
Comments (12)Our Thanksgiving is always the second weekend in October. Usually the trees are alive with splendid colour, or past their peak. We had an unseasonably warm September (in the high 20's, low 30's Celcius) so the trees are hanging on to their green leaves. It's just hubby and I for Thanksgiving, and I do the turkey, mashed potatoes with sour cream and cream cheese, turnip puff, dressing usually in the slow cooker. This year I came across a dressing made out of butternut squash, brussels sprouts, an apple, celery, onion, cranberries and walnuts and bread cubes......roasted. It's very good. I like having our big meal on Sunday, and Monday is spend relaxing, although I did make bread and an apple pie yesterday :-) No sports on tv, like the U.S. Thanksgiving. An annual parade in our city, and festivities.......we also celebrate Oktoberfest at this time of year. Many people use this weekend to close up their cottages and have the last hurrah of summer....See Moredcarch7 d c f l a s h 7 @ y a h o o . c o m
