Happy Thanksgiving!

Canadian Thanksgiving that is, which is Monday Oct. 10. I am sure I have mentioned that DH was born and raised in Canada. I like to celebrate Canadian holidays for him to honor his heritage. Of course any holiday is an excuse for me to do up a table, right?

This is a lovely table, Kathe. Everything is beautifully coordinated and the pheasant looks proud to be the star of the show!

Happy Thanksgiving day also to all Canadian Garden Web members and happy Columbus Day to our American friends. We will be having Thanksgiving on Monday at my daughters. My son-in-law, the chef, likes to put on dinner parties, so it will be quite a feed. I am spending the rest of the weekend cleaning up my garden and getting ready for winter. We've had turkey at Christmas sometimes, but more often a beef or pork roast, depending on what we feel like. We do Christmas Eve at my house, just my family, so we have leeway to do what we want any given year without too much outside griping lol, and we like to mix things up. Sometimes we go Italian and do lasagne, bruschetta, italian soup, a fish; sometimes we do the Feast of the Seven Fishes, other years we've gone Slovak and had a buffet of halupki, kapustnica, pierogi, halushky, etc. We've even started with the oblatky and had the extra place setting. (although we go more traditional American with the desserts when we do Slovak - prune or poppy seed cookies just aren't my thing lol). And no carp in the bathtub lol. I do draw the line somewhere! When you grow up in such a multi-ethnic family as I did, it's nice to have so many traditions to draw on - and even to borrow from others that have nothing to do with you! Most people I think do have the Friday after Thanksgiving off. Obviously medical personnel, retail workers, etc, have to go to work but it seems to me most people have it off. But then many of us are back to work on Saturday! :) Dee

Nancy, we always used the ham bone too, whether it was in soup, in green beans or with cabbage. I've never made ham stock, but my brother is always bemoaning the fact that you can't buy ham stock or ham bouillion cubes here, he loves ham gravy, so it would make him very happy if I did. Grandma would never get rid of that ham bone, it was "perfectly good flavor". You're right about the ration of meat to bone, though, that's 1/3 bone in your ham. I am having both turkey and ham, mine is a ham roast from the pig I bought last spring. It'll have a big bone too, but hopefully not 5 pounds! Annie

Oh, that is a pretty Thanksgvg table! Yeah for you & Mr B. w/2 of 'em to celebrate! Those are just the CUTEST lil' pumpkins in the center of the placesettings! Love 'em!

Lovely table Kathe. Your color choices are so rich and perfect for Thanksgiving...lucky DH!
I like how you layered your plates and the colors you chose. All very striking against your tablecloth.
Your CP is lovely and your Pheasant looks fabulous and so pleased!

This is a fabulous table. The colors are totally fall.
I tried to read about Mr. Pheasant, but when I clicked on the link, it was just your banner(totally cool BTW) and nothing that told me about his story. : (

He is a great CP and I have his twin and the partner, (clearance last yr. at HL.) Mine are on my mantel.

I hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving. Maybe you can Skye in with his family in Canada??

Candy~when I click the link from my phone I also get a blank post but when I click on it from my computer the post is there.
DH's family isn't real tech savvy so I am not sure about the Sype'ing. I will have him talk to them about it though because it is a great idea!
