OT: Colorado and California (tornado/fire)
Comments (10)Can you say snow? lol! Just a light dusting but the ski area nearby has over 4 inches so far. Crazy! It's not unusual for us to get a light snow the first week in May but not this late. It's perfect timing though because my roses are finishing up their first flush and ready for deadheading anyway. Good thing since half of them are hanging on the ground. lol The tornadoes were about an hour south of us in Moreno Valley. We have several friends who live there and they said it was quite a sight. They almost thought it was a joke when they got the warning on the tv. We just don't get many of those out here and basements are almost unheard of unless you live in a very old home. And my DH experienced the CO. tornado via telephone. A business colleague had just phoned him from Greeley when the roof blew off the building he was in. He and several other guys were on the staircase and decided to stay put. Everyone was ok but DH said he could tell the guy was shaken up. Crazy and weird and COLD! Whaa! Give me back my heat wave! : ) Thanks for thinking of us all! Diana Here is a link that might be useful: tornadoes...See MoreOT Off to California
Comments (29)Oy! Yesterday was a tough tough day, today appears to be yet another... I am so glad I have you guys to help drag me through the days. Ok, First, Kim. My mothers name is Janet. I DO want to do a garden for her. However, we will only be on this property for another 8 yrs, then we will be moving. So, after we move, I will do a garden for her. On this property, I am going to plant loads of flowers that will reseed themselves, with a plaque that was my mothers. She had a small poodle that was her favorite little pal. Sparky. I have that plaque. It will be placed in the flower bed. =) This little memorial garden will have to do for the 8 yrs I am to remain on this property. But I am going to do a bigger one, on the farm which is going to be HUGE. I've not planned it yet. I'll come to all of you for help on that one. =) Dax, That tree is absolutely Lovely, truly it is. However, I fear for the water situation. We go through some terribly dry times out here. Right now it isn't so bad, last spring was real green. It was so beautiful out here. Next spring might be the same. We were TOO wet to till and plant, my garden got planted too late in the season due to being too wet to till for too long. =) You know I am so drawn to blues, it's crazy. LoL I don't know why, I haven't figured out why. I don't think I will ever know the why of that. But I do love them. =) I'm going to guess this one will do very well in the conditions out here? Resin, I knew the seeds I picked up wouldn't do well here. But I figured for those of you who do grow them I would collect a cone and a bunch of seeds. =) See... I was thinking of You guys while I was out there. Even though I couldn't grow this lovely conifer, I wanted to get the seeds for those of you who can! LoL And I did have a photo... However, I don't know if I will be able to share it! Haha! My great dane got ahold of my pantech breakout and gnawed the heck out of it! So now I've no cell phone, where the photo is! Ugh! Dratted dog! When it rains, it pours! *chuckles* Well, I do have a cone and I do have a palmfull of seeds. =) Sooo, for those handful of conifer growers, send me an email, I'll dole out some of the seeds. Dax, if you send one of those trees, I'll send you this cone and a few seeds with it. I'm certain it has seeds in it. =) We all know you're quite handy at getting things to grow. Much love to you all, you're all helping me through this and I appreciate that so very much! ~Tina...See MoreOT Heading to California
Comments (14)So sorry I did not make it to Orange county Bill, I so would have loved to. Unfortunately, I ran out of time to do so. You see, it was go go go from the moment the plane touched down. My youngest sibling totally dumped everything in my lap the moment I arrived there. For the first week, appointments every day nearly. Blood draws, Dr's in the town mom lived in, Travis AFB as well. So from Concord to Travis. Wheel Chair bound, with Oxygen. Mom did not do well at all. Oxygen machine was not running properly either, so I had trouble refilling her oxygen too! What a running nightmare it was. From the get go! I made the absolute best of the situation for my mother as I possibly could. Trying to keep her spirits up. I even took the time to redo her fingernails, refill her nails and repaint them. Every time she wished them repainted. From one color to another. LoL Pale purples, pinks, whatever her wishes. No problem. Any time she wanted her hair brushed, I brushed it. She wanted little do dads put in her hair, I did that. She needed bathed, I did that too. Wiped, washed, gently brushed a tear away, I did that. Anything required. I did it. I was her daughter, her friend, her hair dresser, her nurse. Her care giver to the end. Unfortunately Cancer took my mother from me on November 17th at 1:05am. So now I have a major hole in my heart, a loss in my life that I cannot fill. Cannot ever fill again. I do not know how to fill this hole. I do not think I can ever fill this hole in my life. This missing part of myself. One never realizes just how much a part of ones self goes missing until they lose it. Those of you who have been down this road, will know what I speak of. Those of you who have been here, in my shoes, will understand what I speak of when I say I hurt, so terribly. So empty... Just so lonely. And yet, for my daughters sake, I must appear strong. I cannot allow her to view just how painful it truly has been for me, because in my pain, it causes her even more pain. You see, she, like me... is a caregiver. Being a Caregiver, you give of yourself far more than you ever take. And that can never be returned to yourself. So now, I've lost something of Me, that I cannot ever regain. Something of Me that I just cannot ever heal. Not even my plants have helped. And I've tried. I will survive this, but I don't know what shape I will be in, when I recover, what form it will take. =) I am grateful for my friends here, on GW. People here make it a little bit easier to survive the pain. So I have to thank you all for listening to my hurts. ~Tina...See Moreo/t.. California Gold Rush photos...
Comments (16)What stunning photos! I have spent a lot of time looking through the photographs of my local city and county (rose hunting), none of the ones I have found have such incredible clarity and detail! Most of them are a grainier, more of what I think of as typical photography for the period- or maybe just poorly preserved? Still a lovely window into a different time. I've also read (for what it's worth) that portrait sitting, whether for photographs or paintings, was considered a serious business. Smiles were considered to be rude, and disrespectful to the likely once in a lifetime opportunity. I'm not sure how accurate that information is, but most of the photos I've seen, certainly the local ones, are all pretty much somber faced. ?Some photos I've seen which were "hidden camera" types (Yes even then a thing, if rare) everyone seems pretty average, happy, sad, engrossed in whatever they were doing at the time. I'll try to find the link to these. They are fascinating!!!...See Morenancyjane_gardener
