Need help in getting cottage feel in master bedroom
Comments (59)stephf-- while I appreciate your suggestion, I really don't want to paint the antique chest of drawers. I purchased my nightstands from Ethan Allen several months ago in order to tie in with the chest, so I don't want to paint them either. I am just going to work around them. I have purchased some accessories and two pictures for over the nightstands and am having a wreath made for over the bed. I have found an oval cotton braided rug to go at the foot of my bed and plan to put rugs on either side of the bed. I have found that a couple of antique doilies soften the nightstands. It is a work in process, and I am appreciative of all of the suggestions made....See MoreChange Decorating Style to Match House?
Comments (14)I made the move from a Traditional house in Virginia to a more relaxed style in Florida. So, now I thought I would redo everything I had in Virginia, we sold a lot of the furniture and now I have just the few pieces I need to accomplish a more relaxed style. The trade off? The stuff I kept needs refinishing or repurposing or getting something similar but smaller or larger. It will take me a while to reuse my things. If I had it to do over, I would have taken nothing with me, that way I could furnish the downsized house with what really fits here. Harder to take things with you and repurpose than it is to measure and fit what actually goes into the newer home....See MoreHouse paint help! Need suggestions on exterior or photoshop help!
Comments (15)she is having the exposed foundation covereed in stone Probably already knows not to do anything with paint color until the stone is done. After the stone is up, she might have a dozen new color directions to chase. :D Exterior isn't like interior. Interior you do not have to have every last stitch in place to fit a room with color. As long as the basics, permanent elements are in place you can work color. Exterior isn't near as malleable because Mr. Sunshine is so darn intense and direct outside. Get the foundation covered in stone and then take another look. I'm thinking, with the stone in place, she should consider going light and neutral on the body or commit big and go with a dark, punchy color scheme with some drama. Safe midtones could add up to just a mediore color outcome for that house. A really cute house, btw....See Moremansard roof help
Comments (13)If you changed this roof, you would be fundamentally changing the bones of the home. I might gently ask, why did you choose this home if you aren't happy with one of the most basic design elements of the exterior? Instead, I would lean into the look the house has. I am guessing 1970s build? Mansard roofs give great attic or second story space. I love the windows. I love the stone. If you want to change out the roof colors, go with an architectural shingle in a deep brown. But I don't know if that is cost-effective. I would concentrate on the landscaping. Make a more sweeping entrance with a curved flagstone walkway. I can see a Japanese sort of planting look speaking this house's language. Maybe a Prairie style or Asian inspired hanging light fixture on the porch. More dramatic doors with maybe a pop of a rusty red and warm-toned brass handles or deep black iron ones. This house has a strong character-- lean into it!...See MoreSina Sadeddin Architectural Design
